(HTTP 404 Not Found) When Browsing http://companyweb

I'm not sure what happened, as it was working fine a short time ago. This issue manifests on the server as well as the workstations. RWW works fine. I found numerous threads and investigated the suggestions posted there.

The Fix My Network wizard resolved one of the 2 issues it found, but wasn't able to resolve the other one. The one it resolved was 'An Internet port mapping is missing'. The one it couldn't resolve is 'A network component is not configured properly. (Component ID 4)'. The information about that suggests that the TSGateway service is not configured to use an SSL certificate, but the article didn't give clear instructions on how to resolve that. Anyway, it's not when trying to use https that this issue manifests. If I use https I get another error:

HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden

The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.

The BPA reported 2 issues: the SharePoint log getting large (I let the MS Fixit tool take care of that) and it reported that the server disk space is low (I'm working on that one, but after running the Fixit that shows a green check in the SBS Console's Storage tab).

Here are screenshots of the possible related issues in IIS that I've found:

Thanks in advance!

Exchange issue on SBS2011 migration... after old DC was demoted, email goes out, but nothing is received

$

Hello.  I did a migration from SBS2003 to SBS2011 std, and it wasn't perfect, but I got through it OK, at least I thought so until I demoted the old SBS box from DC status and email stopped cold.  I had both boxes up and running for a week, and had no issues, but the DCPROMO demotion killed email.

I found some pieces of the old DC in the DNS files and deleted everything I could find.

I was able to get outgoing email to work by installing new Trusted Root certs, but I'm baffled on the incoming.   Anyone have any thoughts?

By way of background: The SBS2003 machine was a rebuild/partial recovery done last summer.  There wasn't a full backup to use when 1 of 2 hard drives went bad, so I installed SBS2003 fresh and rebuilt/recovered what I could from the available partial backup and the very sketchy documentation.  I believe that this process left some "holes" in SBS2003 that came back to bite me when I did the migration to SBS2011 last month.

Any questions?  I'll be happy to answer as best I can.

Thanks - Greg

Auto reply in stead of Out of Office

Hi

We're running SBS server 2008 with exchange 2007.

We've got an dynamic IP address.  For this reason and for some kind of backup we've chosen to use the pop3 and smart host configuration in stead of working with MX records.

Our smart host (skynet.be) blocks the Out of Office messages due to the empty return path that is created by Exchange 2007.

Some research on the forum tells me that I should use Auto Reply in stead of Out of Office.

I've created a rule that replies to all messages send to me. Those messages are replyed with a specific text.

Now my problem : Nobody is receiving the auto reply messages.

If I use the tracking tool I notice that the auto answer message is appearing as with a RECEIVE status in stead of a SEND status.

See example

Any help would be appreciated.

SBS 2003 stops working and cannot log in with admin account. Restart and can log in fine. Strange errors in the logs.

Hi guys,

We have a client that has a SBS 2003 SP2 server. All the typical server roles.

At around 12.20am last night the server just has a spaz and decides to stop doing what its supposed to doing after running ok for 9 days. I access it through Teamviewer as the service is still active on the server (and its not reliant on AD). I try to log on and the last time it did this it said there was not enough space to log on (after restart allowed me in). This time its decided to tell me that I cannot log in as the username or password is incorrect. Restart and it allows me in.

Upon viewing the logs I found the following:

Application:

MSExchangeAL errors which have completely fulled the app logs up
(LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory eserver.***.local for distinguished name ''. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down.    )

System:

LSASRV
(The Security System detected an authentication error for the server LDAP/eserver.***.local/***.local@***.LOCAL.  The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.
 (0xc000009a)".)

W3SVC
(The World Wide Web Publishing Service encountered an internal error in its process management of worker process '0' serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool'. The data field contains the error number. )

Directory Service:

NTDS ISAM (heaps)
(NTDS (564) NTDSA: Unable to write a shadowed header for file C:\WINDOWS\NTDS\edb.chk. Error -1011.)

DNS Server:

DNS
(The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.)
---------------------------------

Upon restart I have run dcdiag (no issues)

SBS2003 Best Practices Analyser (no issues)

Logs clear up and they are back up and running.

Automatically I assume this is some kind of connectivity issue with AD but that doesn't really explain why its failing over randomly and not really giving me much to go on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Server SBS 2011 freezes - has happened the last two night

The past two nights the server which is about 4 months old. I am just wondering where I can start to try to diagnose this issue.

So far I have checked the event logs and it stops about 12 o'clock and the last even log is

Application:

Event ID: 2080 Source: MSExchange ADAccess

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=4808). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered the following servers with the following characteristics:
(Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable | PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version)
In-site:
ARLING-DC.ArlingLumber.local CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
 Out-of-site:

System:

EventID: 7036 Source: Service Control Manager

The File Server Storage Reports Manager service entered the running state.

I have also used the Reports in Computer managment and those all game back clean.

I am just wondering if there is something that I can set up today so that if it happens again tonight I can view a log and see exactly or point me in the right direction as to why this is happening

Datacollectorsvc.exe consumes all memory on multiple SBS 2011 standard servers

$

Hello all,

I work for a company wich does the IT for alot of small or medium sized company's.

Most of them have SBS 2011 standard running for their domain, mail and other needs.

A couple of weeks ago we started to get some helpdesk cases regarding unresponsive or extremely slow servers (mail, file sharing, OWA)

After some inspection we noticed that the process "datacollectorsvc.exe" went haywire and consumed every last bit of available memory on the server. (in excess of 10GB!)

Disabling the SBS manager service solves the problem for most companies because datacollectorsvc.exe is connected to that service.
But some companies use the reports coming from the datacollector process. At the moment we created a small script restarting the SBS manager service every day.

4 companies I know that are having the problem:

Customer 1: Server hardware is a HP ML350 running vsphere 5.x
SBS 2011 standard is running virtualized on this server with access to 30GB of ram.
They migrated from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011
This SBS is updated with al the last updates

Customer 2: Server hardware is a Fujitsu TX150 S7
SBS 2011 standard is not virtualized and has 12GB of ram
This was a clean and fresh install on new hardware
Not updated with last updates

Customer 3: Server hardware is a Fujitsu TX200 S6
SBS2011 is not virtualized and has 24GB of ram
This was a migration from SBS 2003 or 2008, can't recal it at the moment
Not updated with last updates

Customer 4: Server hardware is a HP proliant ML350 G6
SBS 2011 is not virtualized and has 24GB of ram
This was a migration from SBS 2003
Not updated with last updates

I have been trying and googling for weeks now on a solution, but everytime I think I found the solution it goes haywire after a couple of hours/days and again starts eating all the memory.
And every week we have at least 1 new customer having this problem.
customer 1 is the latest with the problem.

With kind regards,

AD Error Event 53 - DNS name is unavailable and cannot be added to the Subject Alternate Name

Folks:

I have a client computer that is having trouble accessing the server.  Here is the error message I am getting:

Active Directory Certificate Services denied request 461 because The DNS name is unavailable and cannot be added to the Subject Alternate name. 0x8009480f (-2146875377).  The request was for LSSLAWYERS\sdavault.  Additional information: Denied by Policy Module.

Source is CertificationAuthority.

Among other things, it is interfering with this computer getting updated.

In Active Directory, I am also getting an Event 44, CertificationAuthority error:

The "Windows default" Policy Module "Initialize" method returned an error. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. The returned status code is 0x80072746 (10054). Active Directory Certificate Services could not find required Active Directory information.

It seems to me that these might be related.

Any help?

Thanks.

Roaming Profiles - XP to Win 7

$
0

Background
Client originally contracted with my company for an SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 migration and ongoing IT support. Migration was unremarkable with the exception of one department's roaming profiles. The roaming profiles were not noted and as  a result they were not converted during the migration. Prior IT support had also utilized folder redirection in addition to roaming profiles. As a result we encountered severe issues with users logging into temporary profiles or simply being unable to log in at all. Any given users' Local User Registry hive still contains numerous entries pointing to the SBS 2003 server. Client machines are XP SP3.  Eventually I was able to reconfigure both AD attributes and local profiles such that the users were able to consistently log into local profiles. However, restoring roaming profiles has been identified as a high priority by the client.
Presenting Issue
Client has purchased Win 7 machines to replace the XP machines and wants roaming profiles reinstated.
Tentative Solution
A 10k view of my thought on how to migrate the convert the local profiles on the XP machines to Win 7 roaming profiles is as follows:
1. Use the Windows Easy Transfer utility to transfer profile content to Win 7 machines
2. Use the Profiles tab of Advanced System Properties on the Win 7 machines to copy profiles to a network share
3. Edit users' properties in ADUC to point profile path at network share.
So, in the end I'm curious if anyone has had any experience in this situation and if you think this is the best approach. I'm concerned that using the Easy Transfer utility may bring along the "contaminated" Registry entries referencing the SBS 2003 server. Any input or experience with this kind of migration would be deeply appreciated.

Cannot access the Internal Website via Remote Web Access

$

We've just installed a new SBS2011 and setup the internal website.

Inside the company you can access http://companyweb no problem however when you try to access the site via the link in RWA the web site won't launch (it just times out). You get the same behaviour whether you are trying to access the site via RWA from within or outside the network.

It's probably something really simply I'm missing here, any ideas?

What SBS 2008 services use large amounts of internet bandwidth?

$

Because our options are slim for good, high-speed internet in our office, we chose to try out a Verizon 4G MiFi hotspot as our default WAN connection, and relegated our much slower T1 as a secondary WAN2 port.  I have incoming and outgoing SMTP through the T1, but everything else defaults to the 4G WAN (which we get roughly 15G down and 10-15G up!!).

I noticed last night that large amounts of data were being used on the 4G, despite anyone being there.  I'm assuming WSUS might have been downloading updates.  I've temporarily stopped WSUS services to see if that helps.

My question is, what else on a SBS 2008 server could wind up using a lot of internet bandwidth?  (We don't use Sharepoint and Remote desktop sessions go through the T1).

Thanks for any help on this.

Windows 8 error when connecting to SBS2003 Remote Web Workplace

$

Ok, now that we know what the solution is to get Windows 8 working with RWW for SBS 2008, 2011 it is time to look at SBS 2003 and see if there is a solution.

Using Windows RT for this test, using IE in Desktop. Set the address in Trusted Sites, and compatibility view settings.

(I already expect that it is related to something included in Rollup 6 as Susan mentioned in another thread.)

We are able to get to OWA and use companies internal web site from RWW just fine.

When connect to my computer at work is selected the following happens.

Get the standard selection box to select the computer, and click the connect button.

The get the following box:

VBScript

The Remote Desktop Web connection ActiveX control can only run in the 32bit version of Internet Explorer.

OK button

Click on the OK Button and then get the Remote Desktop Connection Pop-Up box about the resources trying to open.

Just for grins click on the Connect button, then get a box with this long message.

VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnected

The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled of the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connection again later. If the problem continutes to occur, contact your administrator.

OK Button

Click the OK, and back at selection screen to select system.

(I had tried this a few times)

Now this gets more interesting.

Just did this with administrator level ID, and selected Connect to Server Desktops

I get the first error about 32-bit, click OK, click connect in pop up, get sign in for SBS 2003.

Then complete sign in. and at desktop for server.

Now try this with admin level ID and I am into a workstation and at the desktop.

Closed IE down, reopend and went to RWW and used regular User ID, and I get the first error code and then get into the workstation.

Go figure.... Would love to get rid of the first error message, but I can live with it if I can connect.

Anyone else seen this behavior? Come up with a reason or solution?

Thanks

Tom

The installation of Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard cannot finish

Hi there,

I'm migrating from SBS 2003 to 2011. I've followed the Migration Guide all the way through, and I'm at the point where 2011 is installed on the destination server. I had an issue during the installation where it was saying the source server name was incorrect, however I entered the same name again and the installation continued so I assumed it found the source server. After the installation process it logged into the desktop and SBSSetup window was stuck at not responding and i waited for hours and resorted to closing the program.

Now, when I open the SBS Console, I get an installation issue - The installation of Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard cannot finish. I've had a look at the SBSSetup.log, and at the end of the log is this:

SBS 2008 slow network drive access

Hello,

I have gone through a couple related topics, but the only one I did find that might be related to this is a topic called SBS2008 Network Slow with any WinXP Computer. The first issue that might be related and stemmed from a specific user who was having crashing issues when opening Excel documents directly from the computer and his machine is WinXP w/ Office 2007.

Following this issue, I received a call from head honcho who said the same thing and so far I do not see any issues of looping on the network (It's really small network) or anything to that extent. What steps should I take to see if it can be fixed or what might be the cause of this issue?

Hi,

This server has been running fine since it was installed last Xmas.  Except around may this year when a issue similar to the above occured but was fixed by changing a reg setting on DNS records time to live.   Lat Monday mid morning it a remote user lost remote RWA and this has been down ever since.  Later that same day and up until the Wednesday internal users were intermittantly losing Intertnet access, the yellow warning triangle showing in the computer icon in the task bar.  Then on Thursday they lost all access to the Internet based web sites except Google and You Tube.   I managed to get the remote user back up and working by setting up a VPN link and they now are back using RWA via VPN.  However no matter what i do i can't get the internal users web access.  Internally they can connect to the Companyweb and also remote.xxxxx.co.uk, RWA.   HELP PLEASE.

Thanking you in advance

Ken.

removing and migrating away from SBS 2008 and ADCS

I have a SBS 2008 server that has served us well. I am finishing up the migration here and i show it has ADCS installed and certs issues. My new DC shows it has a cert issued from this ADCS box. Not sure why or if i should be concerned with this. I want to have the SBS box removed from our domain and i understand to do that i will need to uninstall ADCS and run DCPROMO to transfer the FSMO roles over to my new DC.

Is there any issues in removing ADCS from SBS? Im not sure why my new DC was issued a cert from it. I certainly didnt requet it to get one. THe Certificate Template column shows it as DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

If i remove ADCS from sbs or revoke this cert from the Issued certs list will my new DC have issues?
