SBS 2011 EMC fails to Initialise

$

Hi

I have just setup a new SBS2011 and have an issue with the EMC failing to initialise.
It was fine but now has stopped working. I have found many threads about similar issues but just can't find any solution that works.I open EMC and get the following error

The following error occurred while attempting to connect to the specified exchange server '<my server>.<my domain>.local':
The attempt to connect to http://<my server>.<my domain>.local/PowerShell using "Kerberos" authentication failed: Connecting to the remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client sent a request to an HTTP server and got a response saying the requested HTTP URL was not available. This is usually returned by a HTTP server that does not support the WS-Management protocol

This is driving me mad as I can't now create any new users. I am new to IT so please if you can reply in simple terms as I am still finding my way around

Thanks for any help

Paul

SBS2011 - Add a printer to active directory that has Win7x64 drivers but no SBS2011/2008 drivers

Hello, I have an old(ish) HP printer, It has Win 7 64 bit drivers I can manually install on each machine, however I want to be able to add it to my server so I can automatically deploy it and set it as default in location X. I would try to install the Win7 drivers but they are only available through Windows update. I will never need to print from the server so is it possible to add it without drivers?

Any help appreciated :-)

RDP 8.0 on Windows 7 SP1:

Installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2574819 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687 on a Windows 7 and then attempting to RWA to a SBS 2011 standard/essentials or Essentials 2012 server fails. I am not seeing this on SBS 2008. Hang loose while this is investigated, don't roll these out to workstations if those workstations use Remote Web Access to connect.

SBS2011 Some users are experiencing internet access issues after RWA crash.

Friday one of our salesman asked about RWA. I attempted a login but it failed. At the time of the failure there was a whole bunch of WAS errors. Then immediately all of the users outside of the local subnet no longer have internet access.

We are running the network over an MPLS that spans 5 offices. 4 of the offices have their internet access back hauled to the head office. All 4 offices still have local access to the SBS Server, but no web. I had the MPLS checked at the carrier and they reported all of the routes clear back to the SBS Server. I have been working all weekend on this via a GoTo MyPC account on one of the head office workstations. All of my routes in Routing and Remote Access are still there.

Any Ideas?

Meeting requests received in public folder not forwarded to users mailbox/calendar

Hi,

we have a somehow strange issue on SBS2011 (Exchange 2010/Outlook 2010) here. We receive our EMails using the SBS POP connector, where emails are forwarded to a public folder. This works pretty well (for normal emails), but meeting requests (altough correctly displayed in the public folder) show the following:

  • "As the meeting organizer, you don't need to respond to the meeting."
  • All meeting buttons "accept", ... are greyed out
  • "The meeting cannot be found in the calendar"

If we manually forward the meeting request from the public folder to a users mailbox, then suddenly the buttons are enabled again and everything is working as with an internally send meeting request.

So the questions are:

  • Can we somehow make those kind of meeting requests work in the public folder?
  • If not, can we automate the forwarding action to the corresponding users?

Thanks!

SBS 2008 Companyweb broken after KB2687442 install

Last night, I installed several updates on a SBS 2008 server:

KB2724197
KB2687442 (Security Update to Sharepoint 3.0 SP2)
KB2731847
KB2756822
KB2749655
KB2756497
KB2661254
KB890830

Upon restarting, browsing to http://companyweb resulted in the error:

Cannot connect to the configuration database

I've received this error on other servers before, so I ensured all services were properly running before opening an elevated command prompt and typing:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\12\BIN\psconfig" -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force

The first 2 of 4 stages succeeded, but then the 3rd failed with the error:

An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown.  Additional exception information: The upgrade command is invalid or a failure has been encountered.

Now browsing to companyweb throws a 404 error. I've tried restarting the Windows Internal Database service, SP search service, none of which help. I am able to access the Sharepoint Central Admin page. Permissions all seem fine, but I may need help confirming this. Can anybody help?

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Migrating from SBS2003 to totally new Forest and Domain: trusts, shares, mailboxes, etc.

OK, so this is a complete and total overhaul of the environment, so I've got lots of questions:

- original environment: SBS2003 (PDC, Exchange, FSMO, etc) + a couple of 2003 Std member servers

- new environment: Server 2012 PDC (Server2008R2 Forest and Domain functional levels) + a few 2008R2 member servers (including a standalone Exchange 2010 server and a Windows Storage Server NAS)

NOTEs: both forests are on the same network; old domain was a MESS (poorly setup before I got here, tons of garbage, bad settings, broken stuff, etc) so I don't want to "migrate" users and accounts. I've only got about 50 so I'll create everything from scratch.

TASKS:

- create mailboxes + user accounts in the new domain (done)
- move user's mailbox data from Exchange on the SBS to the new Exchange 2010 server (change MX records)
- move production data from old network storage devices (joined to old domain and domain permissions) to new NAS on new domain
- point users and their machines to the new domain

Mailbox Data Move: what's my best option for this? Do I simply have each user spit out a PSTA file with all of their email, contacts, calendars, etc. then use that to populate their new mailbox? Something easier?

Production Data Move: I can copy data from one server to the other, but the issue is we're moving terabytes of data and I want to do it incrementaly (one share at a time). ISSUES: my biggest issue at this point is SBS doesn't support Trusts. I was hoping to setup a trust between the forests so that users could access data on both domains during the process. Is this possible in any way? olddomain\user1 wants to access newdomain\server1\sharedfolder

Those are the two biggest tasks to handle at this point. ANY help is greatly appreciated!!

10user sbs2011 + prem hardware spec

10 users, all use exchange/file/print, at least 8x concurrent SQL user for LOB app.

I want to virtualise (I think), although tempted to stick SQL on the base SBS server.

Current server running SBS2003 Prem, is now 6years old and starting to creak and groan.

Is this over kill?

  • 512mb Raid controller
  • 6x 300Gb SAS Hard drives (RAID10??)
  • 2x Xeon Processor quad core
  • 32Gb Ram (I was recommended 24Gb, but cost difference was only about 80GBP!)

Cost with the licenses coming in at 5.5K GBP. Would like to think we'd get atleast 5yr life cycle....

GP Question - Password Policy

SBS2011

I adjusted the default domain policy (computer\policy\windows settings\account policies-password policy) to "Not Defined" for "Enforce Password Policy", "Maximum Password Age" and "Minimim Password Age".  What I want to do is not have the server prompt users for password changes every 180 days as defined in the default setup.  But now I am hearing that users are still being prompted for new passwords after a period of time (I changed this policy months ago).  Did I miss something?

Thanks!

SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 migration - AD replication is taking longer ...

Here is the full error message:

Active Directory replication is taking longer than expected. You can choose whether to continue waiting.

I am using the migration document from Microsoft. I have started the SBS 2011 with the answer file with the migration option turned on.

It has run for hours. When the error message comes up, I selected 'continue to wait'. The hard drive continues to flash but after running overnight, it still has not completed.

The SBS 2003 does list the new server but that's about all that I can add.

Thanks in advance.

How to cancel an installation

$

So I recently migrated from SBS2003 to SBS2011.  The system came up with the failed installation, but everything appeared to be working.  We use the pop3 downloader and had some issues with pop passwords, so did not complete the mail configuration.  We installed everything else and migrated the mailboxes and file shares etc.  Then we went to migrate the pop3 downloader and the problems started.

Searching  on the net we discovered the "SBS console repair " procedure and failed on the location of the SBS.msi (this is still a mystery).  We extracted the dim on the DVD to view the files and have clicked on the "sbssetup" application whcih immediately rebooted the server.  Now, when we attempt to log into the server, only the "adminstrator" account appears to be able to log in.  All other admin accounts get a blank blue screen after "applying desktop" via both console and RDP.

The administrator gets an install screen up fill with the SBSAnswerFile details.  From the old server, I changed the name of the file and now I get teh option to do a clean install or migrate.  If I cancel the install, the machine immediately reboots and brings me back to the same position.

The client workstations are still working with access to exchange and SQL databases along with all other functionality.

Is there a registry entry that can be modified to stop this behaviour?  As mentioned, I still have access to the old server and can remotely access registry and files.

Thanks.
