When I originally setup the server I planned on putting in two 128GB SSD's in RAID 1 and having a single partition for the O/S. Then use a RAID 5 array made up of 4x 2TB HDD's for the files I'm serving. Of course the default setup (and the only setup I can find) is that you need a minimum 240GB (so I had to use RAID 0) which it automatically partitions to 60GB for the O/S and 161GB. Of course now I have a useless 161GB partition as I don't really want to keep any files on that partition being as it's RAID 0. Now my O/S drive has 1GB left and I'm constantly reminded to clear up space, but can't. Unfortunately I was in a time crunch to build the server and get it online, As I picked up the SSD's from the nearest retailer 400km away and couldn't get back in the time frame.
Thus my recourse seems to be:
- Uninstall all applications, and reinstall onto the 2nd partition on the RAID 0 array. Then have the backup backup both partitions.
- Buy two 240GB+ drives, configure to RAID 1, and reinstall the system on them.
What I'd like to see:
- Microsoft stops thinking all its customers and partners are incompetent, and offering a custom install, or a way to customize the partitions.
Thus my question is "Can I customize the partition sizing when installing Windows Server SBS 2011 from DVD?"
