How to do a system state restore on sbs 2008 R2

I have a member server (non-domain controller) that may not have shutdown totally before our power went out. It did not come up totally functional. It comes up with super slow response time, taking about an hour to get past "please wait for the local session manage" " Please wait for the user profile service" "please wait for the system event notification manager" and then remaining unresponsive. I have backups and I am hoping from the backup I can recover the system state. Am I correct in thinking that this is the equivalent of doing a restore point recovery for windows 7.

Can anyone point me to a good procedure to follow.  I have recently done a Disaster recovery scenario, recovering the entire machine to a seperate machine so the backups are good. I am hoping to find out how to just recover the system state rather than the entire machine.

Thanks, Patrick
