We have a server running SBS 2011 and less than 10 client pcs (most running XP SP3 & a few on Windows 7) connecting to the server. The server was setup last August and gets fully patch and updated on a weekly/monthly basis along with the clients. The server has two Arrays setup: a RAID 1 for the OS and a RAID 5 array for data.
We have one main shared folder called "Shared" on the data array which is what all the client PCs have mapped as S:\. The Shared drive has a few folders beneath which contain client data. About two weeks ago The main Shared folder became hidden as well as a few of the directories inside it. Not all of them but some of them. In addition I noticed some other top-level directories not related to the Shared directory also became hidden.
In the sub-directories that become hidden (those below Shared) none of the directories below this second level were affected.
What would cause these directories to become hidden and how can I prevent this from happening? I haven't seen this behavior before with many of the other servers I have worked on or maintain. This a total night mare for users who are not technical and go buzerk thinking all their files are gone.
I was able easily able to un-hide the hidden directories using the attrib CMD command but I would like to prevent this issue from occurring.
Thanks for your help.
