Hi All,
Strange scenario but please stay with me :-)
Have a customer who is still operating SBS 2003 (yeah I know - but its still doing a job for them).
They have an identical server sitting in storage to the current production SBS.
The twist is they want to rebuild the SBS 2003 without doing a swing migration with the usual transfer of service.
The current SBS server is so flakey they don't want anything apart from a few file shares and some mail transferred. There is no debate here , I have been told!
In some ways I suppose this makes life a little easier.
My plan is such:
1. Exmerge current mailboxes (only are about 4!) to PST
2. Copy all releveant data off to a USB using robocopy or equivalent.
3. Switch off and disconnect current SBS from Domain
4. Install brand new SBS per previous install specification, IP ,name , partitions etc, domain name etc.
5. Exmerge mail back into newly created mailboxes.
6. If it all goes terrible wrong - backout by switching on old SBS (after disconnecting new one of course).
Anyone have any gotchas to worry about?
My main queston is this, what happens to current domain joined workstation (again about 4!). Are they able to authenticate against the newly installed SBS or will the fact it is a new build cause issues like having to rejoin the domain again etc. Just interested what happens to user profiles I suppose etc.
Any tips super appreciated, as always.
