I've read various suggestions on how to fix VSS problems but nothing seems to cure my issue. The problem appears to have been caused when I used Seagate Disk Manager (which is built on Acronis) to image my old SBS 2003 hard drive when I wanted to install a 1TB one. I have now bought a new server on which I am going to install SBS 2011 Standard, however I thought a migration install would be easier than installing from scratch. In preparation for this I wanted to do a full system state backup but NTBackup won't do a full backup because of volume shadow issues.
When I right click the C: drive on the server and look at shadow copies it just shows an error. Running vssadmin list writers provides a list of writers ok and none appear to be in an error state, however vssadmin list volumes returns nothing so it seems my vss problems relate to the C: drive.
I've run sfc /scannow and provided the Windows SBS 2003 CD to replace missing files, I've tried stopping the vss service and re-registering the dlls as suggested by a kb article, I've tried doing a chkdsk but the error is totally unchanged.
So, is there any way I can fix the volume shadow problems on the C: drive or should I just give up on my old server, save what files and e-mail I can and do a fresh install on my new server?
