I have a client that had an SBS2003 server die last month. Their backups are trash, so we are just hoping to move away from it. We have all the files, sharepoint, and have already migrated to Hosted Exhange. I just can't get the box back on.
Here is the old setup:
1st Server - SBS2003 - 70 users
2nd Server - 2003 R2 - right next to SBS2003 - a secondary DC but not Primary. SBS was.
3rd Server - 2003 R2 - several states away connected through VPN and also a secondary DC.
4th Server - 2003 R2 - also several states away connected through VPN and a secondary DC.
These servers have about 100GB of data being replicated via DFS.
So, now that SBS is dead an unrecoverable... where do I go from here?
Do I DCPromo the 2nd Server? If so, will I need licensing? Will the 3rd & 4th server pick up that change or will I have recreate them?
I'm a little lost on this... and any help provided would be greatly appreciated!
I have since gone to image based back-ups vs Symantec. So I know I deserved to be chewed out for not having a good backup. Trust me... leason learned.
Thank you!
