When using the SBS 2011 Standard migration wizard, I always end up with Exchange failing to be installed, and a related error concerning SharePoint mail. I've tried this numerous times while following so-called fixes documented in other postings. I'm frustrated to the point that I hope I can just build a new SBS 2011 server and then manually migrate the email databases and the group policies.
A few months ago I somehow broke SharePoint. The function I use and miss is the remote access portal. Except for errors related to SharePoint. I pass the BPA tests. I pass the migration wizard existing server scan. Before I started the migration, I redirected my incoming email to stay at my ISPs so I can access it via the web and not lose email due to an extended outage.
After 6 attempts in 3 days following the posted so-called fixes, I'm frustrated enough to start a fresh install and manually migrate the databases, user data, and group policies. I can keep the old server off the LAN and move everything using removable storage. Then I believe I can have everything join the new server, and trash to existing one once everything else is up and running. Is there any reason for me to avoid this changing plans? Has anyone documented migration SBS 2008 Standard without using the migration wizard?
