[SBS 2011] TEMP-folder

The default location of the TEMP-folder is C:\Windows\Temp. For users, the default TEMP-folder is stored in the user profile folder. I don't like that, so for every Windows client, I created a dedicated TEMP-partition with full permission for all users. Works ok.

I've done the same on our SBS 2011 server. A partition specifically for temporary files, with drive letter T:. Created on a different RAID partition of the system. Permissions are the same as for the default TEMP-folder. But every now and then, it doesn't work. For example when I try to install an application. Most application setups are compressed, so upon installation, they are un-compressed in the TEMP-folder. For some reason, some applications don't seem to like the TEMP-folder location. Halfway de-compression, they abort with the message 'Disk full'. But it isn't. There's plenty of room. Cleaning the TEMP-folder doesn't solve it. Relocating the TEMP-folder to drive C: is the only solution to install such an application.

What can cause this behavior?

Simon
