Our sbs 2008 server static ip address changed unexpectedly without human intervention. Worst yet, it changed to a reserved ip address.
Server static ip address: xxx.xxx.0.1
Changed to: xxx.xxx.0.5
The reserved ip xxx.xxx.0.5 is from a dvr which at the moment is not in use.
Circumstances when it happened:
- Electricity felt out for about 6 hours
- Thereafter for a while we could not get connected to the internet
- The modem/router would not connect
- We changed to an old modem/router. It worked.
- Firewall was also configured and reboot a couple of times.
- DHCP or DNS applications were NEVER used
Basic configuration
- 1 server computer
- Sbs 2008 / Exchange 2007
- Cisco SA520 firewall
- Wired and wireless internet connection
- We are a small company with only 10 clients
- Client os: xp, windows 7 and 1 windows 8
What could happen that the static ip address changed to a different ip?
