So, I went to swap my backup drives that I'd previously had no problem with other than occasionally I would get the 'cannot safely removed drive because it is in use' (or something to that effect) message. That requires a reboot, since I have no way of knowing what program or process is 'using' the drive. Rebooting the server is 'NOT' a solution. Susan Bradley claims she has disconnected 'occupied' (my word) USB devices many times with no ill effects, but I have seen, on several occasions, when not removing them 'safely' that the next time I plug them in somewhere, I get a notice that I was a bad boy and need to sit in the corner for awhile (while the repair routine runs).
Anyway, I decided to try taking the backup drive Offline, thinking maybe this would free it up, but when I plugged it back in it is now displaying as being 'Read only'. I suspect that is going to be a problem when Windows Backup tries to do its thing. I can't find any way to access/change the properties of this drive so that it is no longer read only. What should I do?
TIA
