Hi folks,
I'm running SBS 2008 (Swing migration from SBS 2003), and in Group Policy Management I have "Small Business Server Folder Redirection" seto to redirect "My Documents" and all sub folder to another Server 2008 box. It's working fine, but I'm starting to run low on disk space on the box it's redirected to.
In looking at the files, I have a ton of Itunes media library and general "My Music" items that are not work related and would like to exclude them from being redirected to the server. I don't care that they have stuff like that on their local machines (All Win 7 Pro if that matters), but I dont' want anything but work documents redirected to the server.
I've been searching online, but haven't seen a solution for this. I'm no expert on group policy management, so I'm cautious about what to do.
Here is what I see: If I got into the SBS 2008 box and launch Group Policy Management, there is a Policy called "Small Business Server Folder Redirection". If I click on it and go ot User confguration | Policies | Windows Settings | Documents, there is a setting: Basic (Redirect everyone's folders to the same location), and the path is the Server 2008\Users\%Username%\My Documents, which is where they are stored. The Music, Pictures, Videos belows that all say Settings: Follow the Documents folder.
If I right click on the policy and go to User Configuration | Policies | Windows Settings | Folder Redirection, I see a bunch of items (AppData(Roaming), Desktop, Start Menu, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Favorties, Contacts, Downloads, Links, Searches, Saved Games.
If I right click on Music and go to properties, I get to the music properties folder, and the default setting is "Follow the Documetns Folder" The other options on the drop down are Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location, Advanced - Specify locations for various user groups, and Not Configured.
If I got to the Settings tab, all options are greyed out.
Am I in the right spot? All I'm trying to do is have the server stop redirecting the "My Music", My Videos" folders from syncing with the server and taking up space there. I'm OK with them staying on the users desktop. IfI try to change the setting to one of the others I get a warning that this setting will not apply to Windows 2000, 2000 server, XP or Server 2003 OS's. I kind of assume if I select one of the options to change, the they settings options will not be greyed out, and I think I would tell it to redirect the folder back to the local userprofile location when the policy is removed.
If I am in the right spot, do I select not Confgured, or one of the other options and redirect back to tlocal user profile location, is that th right settings to select?
Also, one the policy has taken effect, will the My Music stop redirecting, and they disappear from the server, or would I have to manually delete them.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
