SBS 2011 - Install Certificate Package.zip not working

Hi

OK, customers SBS 2011 SSL Cert has just expired.

I've just renewed and expired SBS 2011 SSL Certificate on the server and been to Public Downloads and got hold

of the latest Install Certificate Package.zip.

In order to test this I setup an Outlook 2010 profile for the SBS 2011 box on my local PC (not a domain PC) at a remote location and also set it up for Exchange Proxy Settings.

I made a VPN connection to the office and opened up Outlook for the first time and did an initial sync, all working OK.

Then I closed Outlook, disconnected the VPN connection and then a few moments later I opened up Outlook again and was met with the usual Proxy Certificate warmning message as I had not yet installed the SSL Certificate locally.

So closed Outlook again.

I then mailed the latest 'Install Certificate Package.zip' to myself at the remote location and saved it to my desktop and extracted the contents of the zip file.

I then ran the 'install certificate.exe' program and selected to install the certificate on my computer and this installed sucessfully. So far so good..

I then opened Outlook again and all was well, no Proxy certificate warning. Sorted.

I then logged onto one of the staff PC's ( domain PC) at a remote branch office and got hold of the same 'Install Certificate Package.zip' and extracted it to the desktop and ran the 'install certificate.exe' program...but it came up with an error saying that it could not be installed ???   I tried the same thing on several other PC's, same thing, it won't install..yet it did work on my PC at home ?

I can install the SBSCertificate.cer manually onto the PC's at the remote branch office and manually choose to install the SSL Cert into the Trusted Root store and then they work OK again..but that's not the point, why doesn't the SBS installer work ??

I wanted to mail the latest package around to everyone to get them to install the latest SSL Cert to save time...but it looks like it isn't going to work, what is going on ?

I see others with the same problem that are simply told to install the SBSCertificate manually and I know this works. but why isn't the installer working on domain based company machines yet it works on my PC at home ?

Surely that's the whole point of SBS ? to simplify things..

Any ideas anyone ?

Mike
