We are currently running an SBS 2003 network and we've greatly outgrown the limitations for SBS. We currently have 65 users and CALs and while I know we can grow to 75, the company has plans to exceed 75 connected users and devices within 2013. So it's time to change.
Over the years since implementing SBS, the company has expanded the IT infrastucture to provide better resources mainly due to the 32bit (4Gb RAM) limitation of SBS 2003. We have a dedicated SQL 2008 server along with a dedicated Exchange 2003 server (SBS is still Exchange 2003 Front-end). These servers are connected directly to SBS on the same subnet. We also have another backup DC that is setup as a catalog AD box but of course, the SBS still maintains all of the FSMO roles as required.
What is the best method to transition from the SBS config to full Microsoft licensing? In years past, they sold a transition pack to perform this task, but I believe it's EOL now. I understand also that we'll drop RWW and some of the other SBS tools, which is fine as we have already setup Citrix for remote access.
Thanks for any input.
