Rolling out a SBS 2011 Server

Hello,

I plan to roll out a SBS 2011 server in the next few months to replace a SBS 2003 IT environment. We are a very small organisation with only about 15 users, so rather than using migration my preferred option is to do a clean install. It won't take very long to create the user accounts again, to transfer data (documents etc) from the old to the new server and to set up the mailboxes with POP 3/IMAP accounts etc. My only concern is transferring the Exchange data in the mailboxes (inboxes, sent items etc) to the new Exchange server. Is there a safe way of doing this? On the current SBS 2003 server we backup using tape but SBS 2011 now only uses external hard drives.

I have set up a SBS 2011 test server simulating all the possible scenarios before I go live with a new system.  I am using the native SBS backup engine but I cannot see a way to restore mailboxes. Where is this data located?

In such a small organisation it would seem less time consuming setting up the new server from scratch rather than going through all the procedures to migrate data from 2003 to 2011. Am I correct in this assumption?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Mark
