I am getting large numbers of DCOM 10009 & errors on our SBS 2008 server. Many of them are related to my desktop PC which is running Windows XP. I have looked in the event log on this pc and see lots of NetLogon 5789 errors: Attempt to update DNS Host Name of the computer object in Active Directory failed. The updated value was 'HARVEST-PALE'. The following error occurred: The parameter is incorrect.
I followed the link to the Help & Support Centre which suggests to check DNS settings, whicvh all look OK (network card is set to automatically determine DNS).
It also suggests to run DCDIAG, so I have downloaded and installed the Windows Server 2003 support tools and run this.
This displays the following error: ***Error: HARVEST-PALE is not a DC. Must specify /s:<Domain Controller> or /n:<Naming Context> or nothing to use the local machine.
So I ran it again with the /s switch specifying the server name. It seems to run lots of tests, all which pass except the systemlog test which generates a long list of the following error repeated many times:
