Client mail lost on a new laptop

I just replaced one of my domain users computer with a new one. On the old laptop, he uses outlook to connect to exchange 2010 and read mails fine. I changed his computer for a newer one and he can't read any of his mails. When I send him test mail he get and can reply, however he can't read any of the previous mail.

Can anyone explain to me the why that happened?

I will be changing another user's computer very soon, how do I backup a single user's mail and restore it in case the same problem occurs again. I'm using Exchange 2010 build 14.01.0393.000
