SBS 2011 EMC Initialization Failed. Active Directory Response 000020EF.

Hi, we currently have a Windows SBS 2011 server running. It was running perfectly when it was installed about 8 months or so ago. We were asked to do some basic exchange tasks (changing attachment and quota limits etc.) however when trying to run the EMC and EMS we get the following error:

"The following error occurred when retrieving user information for 'Domain\[AdminUser]':

Active Directory operation failed on SERVER.domain.local. This error could have been caused by user input or by the Active Directory server being unavailable. Please retry at a later time. Additional information: Additional information: The directory service encountered an unknown failure.
Active directory response: 000020EF: SvcErr: DSID-020A11D5, problem 5012 (DIR_ERROR), data -1206
. It was running the command 'Get-LogonUser'."

Also when trying to add a new SBS user we get an error saying that our admin account does not have Exchange administrator rights. So it can't set up Mailbox and OWA. We have checked to make sure our admin account is part of the appropriate group and even created a new user and stuck it in the Organization Management group but to no avail.

Any idea? Can't install the BPA either. :( Looks like Active Directory is corrupt. We don't have any working backups of AD (joy!)

I'm thinking it's going to need wiped and rebuilt but my boss doesn't want to go that route if we can help it since 'everything works' apart from the ability to make new mailboxes and change related settings.

If you need any more info just ask and I'll get you what I can!

Thanks for your time. I appreciate it!

Edit: It's the only DC on the network.
