SBS2011 - Exchange 2010 - Does removing user remove mail-account?

$

We're running an Small Business Server 2011 with Exchange 2010. We recently had a few changes in our employees, so we have 3 users that have to go.

What happens if I delete the user? Will the emailaccount be deleted automatically? Or can I 'save' the emailaccount so the emails that they still get don't get lost?

Network adapter has an incorrect IP address type

Hello,

I have Windows SBS2008 connected to a Netgear AC1750 Router.  I recently switched from ATT to Comcast for my internet, now using a Arris TM822 modem.  Since I switched to Comcast, every time there is a power outage or even if I reboot the server, I lose the internet connection.  So now I have to go to the SBS Console- Network>Connectivity>click Fix My Network.  The wizard comes back with"Potential network issues-Network Adapter has an incorrect IP address type-Details-The IP Address on the network adapter on the server is not a static address"

At this point, I click Next and have the wizard fix it.  Obviously, this is not the ideal way to handle it.

Everything worked fine before switching to comcast.  I have very basic server knowledge.  I'm not sure if my server settings are incorrect or if my router settings may be incorrect, or both.

In my router Internet Settings, I have-

Internet IP Address set to Get Dynamically from ISP

DNS Address set to Get Automatically from ISP

Router MAC Address set to Use Default Address

LAN Settings, I have-

LAN TCP/IP Setup- IP Address 192.168.1.1  IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Use Router as DHCP Server is Unchecked.

I've never had to deal with this before since there were no issues before switching to comcast.  It's possible there were some changes made when I was setting up the to router to work with comcast.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

NTFrs error event id 13559 twice a day on fresh SBS 2011 stand alone server.

I'm getting Event ID 13559 twice a day at 4:53pm & 5:33pm.  Server is in test environment with nothing attached or no special apps installed.  Have restored this server from backup.  Could that something to do with it?

Fresh SBS 2011 install, fully patched.  Dell server, H710 array controller, first virtual drive C: is OS, second virtual drive D: is Data, nothing special installed.

The File Replication Service has detected that the replica root path has changed from "c:\windows\sysvol\domain" to "c:\windows\sysvol\domain". If this is an intentional move then a file with the name NTFRS_CMD_FILE_MOVE_ROOT needs to be created under the new root path.

This was detected for the following replica set:

    "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)"

Changing the replica root path is a two step process which is triggered by the creation of the NTFRS_CMD_FILE_MOVE_ROOT file.

[1] At the first poll which will occur in 60 minutes this computer will be deleted from the replica set.

[2] At the poll following the deletion this computer will be re-added to the replica set with the new root path. This re-addition will trigger a full tree sync for the replica set. At the end of the sync all the files will be at the new location. The files may or may not be deleted from the old location depending on whether they are needed or not.

SBS 2011 Standard and Win 10 Client unable to see Network

Recently upgraded my workstation from Win7SP1 to Win10. The upgrade was uneventful and almost all programs and connections worked well. However, I do have a problem with Network explorer only showing 2 of 9 computers on the network. It also does not show the SBS2011 server.

It is not a trust issue as connected with http://connect and the Win10 machine is on the network

All map drives and shares work fine. All printers and devices are seen, just not 7 computers/server.

If I extend the column under network explorer I see that WSD and SSDP discovery works fine, but there are no NetBIOS computer discoveries. If I reinstall the computer to its Win7 image it sees all the computers including all the the NetBIOS connections.

Has anyone seen this? Any suggestions appreciated.

SBS 2011 Standard: Reports showing "unknown" HRESULT: 0x00070002 for updates but console is showing green.

When I look at my SBS Standard Console it shows green across the board, but when I look at the nightly "summary" and weekly "detailed" reports it's showing UPDATES as "unknown" with the error HRESULT: 0x00070002.  Any explanation for what's going on here?

I'd like to get this server running as cleanly as possible before I move on to an application install in case that requires additional debugging before placing into production.

No hard-drive space left, Server 2008

Hi all,

we are running a server using Windows Server 2008 Standard FE, Service Pack 2. The C-drive has 60 GB, however we had only half a GB left and I tried to free up some space. Typical recommendations included the installation of the desktop experience module to get access to the disk cleaner, however the installation failed and filled up the c-drive completely. I could delete another 100 MB and tried the server clean-up wizard to cut down the size of the WSUS folder (around 30GB). However, this failed as well, now the c-drive is full again and the server update services gives me only an error message that there is not enough space on the disk...

Are there any possibilities to get more disk space again?

Thanks for your help!

Extract PST from EDB after server catastophe

$

Long story short, I had a server where the MB went nuts and killed the 3 of the 4 drives in a SBS 2011 Standard server.`The server was old, so client went with whole new hardware. Installed SBS 2011, but the client gave me wrong info as to the domain name and FQDN of the server. They had a backup drive which has the EDB and log files, but FQDN don't match so I can't mount it.

Is there a way that I can mount, just to extract the PST files? They have close to 100GB of Exchange Data and need access to it. I was able to recovery some by putting their old workstations offline and export to PST, but this was only an option for 10 out of 40 employees that they have, the other 30 used OWA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SBS 2008 RWW doesn't work from Win 10 workstations

I have 2 SBS 2008 systems, one at work I (try to) manage and a test system at home. Both systems have one workstation so far upgraded to Win 10, and neither Win 10 client can connect to another computer, either local or remote, through RWW. I can connect to the RWW site, but when I select a computer to connect to (server or workstation) I get "The Wizard cannot configure Remote Desktop Connections. Make sure that the client version of Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.0 or later is installed on this computer." But RDP is installed, and when I run the app directly (msts.exe) It will connect, but that only allows me to get to the server on the remote end, not the workstations. I have searched this forum, but the only thing I have found so fare are the compatibility mode setting (which I had to do to even see the list of computers to connect to) and the trusted zone, which I have done, but no effect on the Win 10. Vista and Win 7 clients can still connect with RWW, and Win 10 clients can RDP, it's only RWW from Win 10 that doesn't work. (I can also RWW to the Win 10 clients from the Vista and Win 7.)

Does anybody have any other ideas.

SharePoint Administrator terminated and can't get login information

We are a small business office for several physicians and our SharePoint site wasn't being utilized until late last year. Unfortunately, the administrator was terminated before she passed on her administrator sign-in.  Is there any way, other than starting from scratch, to add an administrator without her login information or are we SOL??

Thanks.

2 Users at one time RDP

Hi,

I was wondering if I can have 2 or more sessions simultaneously using RDP. I actually only need one person using RDP, and the other person has to watch, which he can do using teamviewer, a recorded playback or Prefered RDP.

I am part time IT Manager for a Small Business, I would appreciate any help. Also, please don't say - "It is not Possible" as that is not helpful at all.

Thanks,

Windows Server backup error

Hi ,

I am having trouble getting Windows Server backup to work again. It just wont go at all now. Has not worked for a few months now.Its a Window SBS Server 2008 and I am using the built in Windows Server Backup.

I just recently replaced both hard drives in the server as I was a disk failure warning.

There are two 1TB Sata drives in Raid 1 Mirror mode. I cloned the original drives to the new 1TB Drives.

I thought after I cloned to new drives that the backup may start working again but it hasn't.

When I do a VSS List writers this is what I get.

It shows half of the eriters in a failed state but not sure what to do next to get them fixed.I have seen some options to re registers the VSS writers but that this is not recommended dor Windows SBS Server 2008.

Are there any other tools that can check and repair the VSS Writers. Should I perfom a Chkdsk on the drive to see if there are corrupt files from the previous drives which were beginning to fail.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Volume System Information Folder using 48% of hard drive

$

My server's hard drive is almost full. Started digging and used TreeSize to find that the Volume System Information folder is using over 48% of the hard drive.

Researched it and used the vssadmin command and got the following:

Used Shadow Copy Storage Space: 129 GB

Allocated Shadow Copy Storage Space: 130 GB

Maximum Shadow Copy Storage Space: 40 GB

I used vssadmin to delete all Shadows. The same amount is still allocated, 130GB. I have tried changing the Max to 320MB, no change. Tried disabling all together, no change. I can change the max all I want, but the Allocated never changes.

What do I need to do to make that 130GB go away? HELP!!!!!

SBS 2011 asking for credentials when connecting to COMPANYWEB

$

Good day folks, hope someone can advise more on line of a postmortem than anything else.

I have a setup where the users are always being asked for user credentials when trying to access HTTP://COMPANYWEB and when they enter their credentials it won't accept them, it just keeps asking for them again.

If an Administrator provides credentials then it connects to COMPANYWEB.

Users are in Windows SBS Sharepoint_VisitorsGroup / MembersGroup / OwnersGroup

I have checked that permissions are granted in COMPANYWEB / SITE ACTIONS / SITE PETMISSIONS

As far as I can see they should be able to get to company web no bother. When I check permissions it confirms they have them i.e. Given through the Companyweb Members group.

I added in again SBS Sharepoint_visitorsGroups etc and granted various permissions of Full/Design/Read. But they still could not get in. I also added Domain\users.

I resorted scatter gun approach of adding all users to the IIS_IUSR group as well as granting permission to the group directly to the Companyweb directory in INETPUB

I then ran IISRESET, and after this users were able to get in. I think I may have added groups/users more than necessary, but after hours of just trying to get users back in and I would not be able to come back to site for a few more days. In the end this got them back into companyweb, but how or why is a mystery to me

Does anyone have a hint of what may be wrong.

Drive Mapping in SBS 2008

I inherited a SBS 2008 network and darn if I can figure out where the users are getting their drive mappings from. They are not using the ADUC Login Script. There is a "Company Drive Mapping" GPO linked at the Domain level but I can't see where they are mapping drives in in. I know they are mapping them somewhere. I just can't figure out where. Where would I start looking?

HELP! SBS 2008 update reboot in middle of the week!!!

Hello everyone!

We have an old SBS08 server that went into reboot after installing 35 updates in a row, and that is, in the middle of the week. For now it has been 1h30 in the reboot process and i still have no life sign of the services going back up (only RDP port 3389 seems to give a life sign, but can't login). We're in the middle of business week here, how long should it take to make it back up? This server hosts all the critical services of the company so I have to get it up by tomorrow morning (which leaves me about 8-9 hours)

My question is: What would be the best course from here if the server is not up by tomorrow morning? What can I do to mitigate downtime? This is the sole server of the company so no backup available.

HELP! Every advice is welcomed.

SBS 2011 Event ID: 2 Session "WBCommandletInBuiltTracing" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035

It's 2016 and I'm trying to get my SBS 2011 Server tuned as well as possible and I'm getting these stupid ID 2's several times per hour and whenever I have the SBS Console open.

I've read literally hundreds of posts about this, but no solid answer.  One looked promising with the removal of a registry entry, but that never came to be as the entry was not located where the poster said.

I'd really like to get get a handle on this ID 2 problem.  It's showing up in the event viewer as an Error with several thousand per week.

It's not making the SBS Report and if it was I'd use the SBSAlertsCleanup tool to filter it out, but I'd still like to get it to stop clogging up my Summary of Administrative Events.

Is there anything that can be done to get rid of this insidious event?
