I have a client that has SBS2011 Standard running exchange

last year they joined with another company at the same premises so I added an additional domain to the sbs 2011 no problem

all working well

Now they have acquired another firm and this is where the fun is starting

the new firm is running exchange externally and they will not change to POP accounts will not allow a sub domain

this is causing a major issue as the other old emails are still active and will be so well into the future however

now is the fun part how or what is the recommended way to setup exchange server to add the mail into this group

If I try to create an additional exchange connection it will not allow it what is the best way to get exchange server to incorporate the external exchange into there current environment

all the users have been given a logon that is very different to there current alias's

as there are so many posts out on internet that say internal relay /external relay etc

I inherited a client from another company and about a year ago, their SBS 2008 server failed, cause unknown to me, they purchased a new server, completely different that the one they had before, and performed a bare metal restore. I spoke with the company that performed the work and they told me that they never felt confident with the bare metal restore, but it was the only option they had as the owner did not want to do a clean install and migrate 25 computers.

Now with that being said, besides running BPA, what other test can I run to verify the health of the server? We are about to move from a hosted email service to the Exchange on the server and I want to make sure it is running good. Both the owner and the previous company think I should backup and reinstall SBS2008 with restore, but would this restore any problems, if any?

I have done a few reinstall with restores before, but they have been on servers that I have maintained and know the condition of. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have recently restored our Small Business Server 2011 Standard (not Essentials) firewall to it's defaults to resolve a SMTP connectivity issue. After the restore all the Exchange firewall rules seem to have disappeared and some of the file and printer sharing rules are disabled(grayed out). We found that all the customer rules are removed when a SBS 2011 Essentials firewall is restored to its defaults, but since SBS 2011 Standard also has rules for Exchange and SharePoint how could we go about repairing the firewall to restore the Exchange rules?

userA001 has been renamed to userB007 in the Active AD some years ago. However in the 'Manage Users' page from thecompanyweb, the user name takes the old one domain\userA001. I have deleted the user and add it back gain hoping to have domain\userB007 but it's not. Some say the info has stored in a SQL database. Perhaps that's why. Please direct me to edit the SQL and correct the username from there.

Yes, I know the SBS party has passed.  But, I have a client who purchased it before the end of the year, and we are now doing a migration from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011.  However, it is taking longer than 21 days.

I know with SBS 2003, you can suspend SBCore and extend the migration.

Apologies if this isn't in the right place.

I'm looking for some advice on a server migration I've carried out recently.

We've switched to a new (faster) ISP at our office location (site A). We have the one DC at this location and another in a datacentre (site B.) I'm fairly sure I've missed something during the migration.

I've updated the public IP address on the NIC at site A to reflect the ISP change, updated all firewalls (I've also disabled the firewalls for testing but that didn't seem to help) and I've manually updated the DNS entries both ends to reflect the change of external ip for site A's DC. The internet connection works fine and I can ping external IP's from both ends. Internal only works for the end that has the working RRAS VPN. Pinging by name resolves to internal IP so only works if the VPN is up.

Before the migration, we had a site-to-site VPN using RRAS. This is now refusing to connect. I can manage to get one end connected for example Site A connects to site B in RRAS but site B won't connect to site A (with an error of unreachable) some days both won't connect and the connected end also alternates.

I've seen error 807, 691, 7122, 1256 and error 1815 in the logs. I can see the traffic being allowed in and out of the firewalls at either end but the connection doesn't seem to stick.

I'm also getting active directory (AD) replication issues due to the connectivity loss between sites.

Could someone please advise as to what I've missed during the migration?

I have a customer with a 2008 SBS server. It is about 4 years old. The original disk is a 250 GB, which is divided into 80 GB on C and the rest on E. We just purchased a 1 TB disk to replace the E drive. My plan is to transfer everything on the current E drive to the new disk and then remove the 2nd partition on the primary disk and expand the C drive to use this space.

My question is this - If I use the Windows server backup/restore app to restore the contents of the current E drive to the new disk, will it re-create the share points and security setting that I previously had set up on this disk? IS that the best way to accomplish this or is there another method that would be better?

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this strange problem which has occurred after February patch cycle. On the SBS detailed report that comes through, the security section is showing as RED error. Though if you look at the detail, each section is listed as green compliant. Not sure why this has happened? Has anyone else seen this before?

Everyone so often users are unable to access shares and a gpupdate /force fails with event ID 1058.

From the PC i am able to access \\SERVERNAME\sysvol but i cannot access \\DOMAINNAME\sysvol until the server is rebooted.

I have downloaded en_install_disc_windows_small_business_server_2011_standard_x64_dvd_611535.iso 

3 times now from the TechNet website and each time I keep getting the following errors:

This occurs right around 30% of expanding files during the install:

I ran the chkdsk utility but still no successful install.

Can someone at Microsoft check this ISO and determine if it is corrupt and if so provide a link to download a non-corrupt file?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Background:
Fujitsu Primergy TX100 S2 running Windows SBS 2011 Essentials
We have around 12 clients, all but one is running Windows 7 Pro.

The server is used to store files, and host QuickBooks and Kaspersky AV. It also runs the normal network services.

Here's my problem... I walked into the office this morning (Monday) and it was chaos. The server had hung up, as well as many of the office PC's. I restarted everything and it seems okay for like 10 minutes. Now it seems like every time the server hangs up, several other office computers freeze as well. But everything seems to be fine as long as the server is running okay. I'm not sure of any services that might be running on the machine that might cause this effect. I've tried running scans for critters with Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.

I'm afraid I'm in over my head at this point, and need some help. Any ideas?

Our SBS 2008 server's system drive (C drive) is running out of disk space so we need to cleanup some space. Can you guys tell me if it is completely safe to delete the log files located under these directories? 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server\Data\ProgramLogArchive

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG

C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Logs\MonitoringServiceLogs

Also, how about the files inside these folders? Please advise.

I read on the forums that the POP3Service log should automatically trim at 450MB to 400MB

I have just checked my log and clearly this isn't happening. It is 1.6GB in size.... (95% of the size of the Logs folder)

How do I fix this?

Obviously I need to trim it myself, I have read about people saying to open and remove entries on a date basis. - Fine but how do I open a 1.6GB text file lol - I'm gathering I can't just delete the log?

Also how do I find out why the Trim at 450MB isn't working? or can I initiate that to trim the log?

I seem to have a bit of a problem the SBS manager service will not start at all. I have tried rebuilding the SBS Monitoring database and this did not help. This started happening a few months after a SBS 2008 to SBS 2011 migration, does anyone have any ideas as I no longer get reporting or alerts.

At first I thought it might have had something to do with permissions but not too sure how to check and what to check apart from the common things, DB permissions, permissions on folders etc but I may have missed something?

I had an SBS 2011 server that was running great until the Sharepoint 2010 SP2 update. Now one ot the major issues is that it won't backup. I don't use Sharepoint. In Addition, all of thr problems listed below started happening..

I have run the PSconfig:

1. Open an Administrative command prompt.
2. Change directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN
3. Run PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures

With no luck whatsoever, Now what do I do?

Small business server 2003

Our Global ID has been blocked intermittently for the last 10 ten days.  Apparently, the hosting company's "firewall blocks the IP if access to any of the secure services (email, ftp, cpanel etc) are attempted with the wrong password more than a couple of times." Below are the email addresses with multiple failed attempts.

The proposed solution from the hosting company is to "look at your email programs on all your computers that may have ever had access to this email account. Including laptops, phones, tablets, desktops and anything else.

Also says most likely we have a device that you configured to receive email on and have stopped using this device for email and since changed the password on your email account.

Our Exchange 2007 Microsoft Exchange Information Store and Microsoft Exchange Transport services wont start. All dependencies have started except Microsoft Forefront Server Protection Eventing Service. We tried starting it manually but we got this message (see attached). Any idea how to fix this? Since we cant start Microsoft Exchange Information Store and Microsoft Exchange Transport services, OWA users cant access their emails. Please advise.
