Server Performance/Usage Report not sending to correct email

$

We recently switched our email from our Exchange server to be hosted by our web provider.  All email addresses are the same.  For instance, myaccount@mydomain.com now gets handeld by our web provider.  The weird thing now is that our daily Performance/Usage Report is still being sent to the Exchange mailbox even thou the email setting for each report is pointing to myaccount@mydomain.com.  Why is it still sending to our Exchange mailbox?

I like connect the network E-Studio 452 to Exchange server onsite. But as I configure the printer with auto authentication, It fails to use exchange server. Do you have any idea to help?

Windows Small Business Server Essentials becomes Windows Server 2012
Essentials - The Official SBS Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/07/05/windows-small-business-server-essentials-becomes-windows-server-2012-essentials.aspx

Hi everyone,

"I’m writing today about a significant milestone for Windows Small
Business Server (Windows SBS). With the new Windows Server 2012 line up,
/Windows Small Business Server Essentials/ has been renamed /Windows
Server 2012 Essentials/. By making Essentials a full-fledged member of
the Windows Server family, we are reaffirming our commitment to
delivering a flexible, cloud-enabled server platform that is designed
and priced for small businesses and the partners that serve them.

Formalizing Essentials as a core edition of Windows Server 2012 will
more clearly communicate how it fits into the Windows Server family and
give it more visibility as a product.

We believe Windows Server 2012 Essentials is the most affordable and
easy-to-use server solution for small businesses to date, helping
customers with up to 25 users and 50 devices reduce costs and be more
productive. It is an ideal first server, and can also be used as the
primary server in a multi-server environment for small businesses. It
helps you to protect, centralize, organize, and access your applications
and information from almost anywhere by using virtually any device.

Additionally, Essentials can grow with the needs of your business over
time; you can purchase and convert to Windows Server 2012 Standard,
removing the maximum user and device limits while retaining all your
data and configuration settings as well as the unique value-add features
that Essentials provides.

Windows Server 2012 Essentials has been designed to give you the
flexibility to choose which applications and services run on-premises
and which run in the cloud. In contrast to Windows SBS Standard,
Essentials offers lower up-front acquisition and deployment costs. It
allows you to take advantage of cloud-based messaging offerings while
enjoying an integrated management experience by subscribing to Office
365 or a hosted Exchange service. If you prefer a fully on-premises
solution, you have the option of running Exchange Server on a second
server (either as a physical or virtual machine) alongside Essentials
with the same integrated management experience.

Windows Server 2012 Essentials can also be used as a platform to run
line-of-business applications and other on-premises workloads, as well
as to provide an integrated management experience when running
cloud-based applications and services, such as email, collaboration,
online backup, and more.

Windows SBS 2011 Standard, which includes Exchange Server and SharePoint
Foundation, will be the final such Windows SBS offering. It will remain
available through the OEM channel until December 31, 2013, and will
remain available in all other current channels until June 30, 2013. For
additional details, please see the Windows Server 2012 Essentials FAQ
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/0/8/80882EEE-96E1-486F-889D-6C0ACFCC1E42/Windows_Server_2012_Essentials_FAQ.pdf

I hope to see you at the 2012 Worldwide Partner Conference starting July
8 in Toronto, Canada, where we’ll be talking more about Windows Server
2012 Essentials, and we’ll also let you know when you can try it out."

SBS 2011 Exchange relay issue

I have a local relay setup on my SBS 2011 server and am running into a peculiar issue on SBS 2011 servers, only.

There are 2 SBS 2011 servers that we monitor backups that are taken by ShadowProtect with. These backups send a report to us nightly, however we have not been receiving them.

When I initially configured the email reporting, I was able to send a test and it was successful.  Now, when I test the email, I notice that the IP Address which is being used as the 'sending IP address' has changed and is now the first address in the RRAS pool for that server.

Example: RRAS Pool is 192.168.0.58 - 192.168.0.62
Server IP: 192.168.0.11

When I run a test Email, the my_ipaddress no longer shows 192.168.0.11. If I run through the connect to the internet wizard or the fix my network wizard, it goes back to being 192.168.0.11, but after a few days, the reports stop and when I run a test again, the my_ipaddress shows as 192.168.0.58 (or the first address in whatever the range currently is).

Has anyone experienced this or a similar issue?

SAS or SATA for a RAID array hosting SBS 2012

Hi,

I'm working for a company currently employing 6 people, with a small network of 14 computers. We are planning to recruit up to 15 other people in the coming years.

We want to improve our IT infrastructure, by running an instance of SBS 2011 (Active Directory, Exchange, fileserver, etc.).

I know the requirements for CPU, RAM and networks of SBS 2011, but I can't find any information about the right technology for a RAID array hosting SBS.

I'd like to host the OS (including exchange) on a RAID 5 array, with up to around 20 users in the near future.

Is an array of SAS drives mandatory, or is the use of SATA drives sufficient ? No other data or application that Exchange and the fileserver will run on the server, and the data growth rate is fairly small.

Thanks in advance for you answer.

Hi,

After installing a some updates at a customers the company Web site was giving site not found errors.  I ran PSconfig,  I reset the Spfarm password as I was getting errors. After trying a few things I decided to reinstall the Company Web site from a MS artical.  But I just can't seem to get it to work.  Still getting VSS Error 1376.

The Remote and OWA Sites are working fine.  Any ideas what I am missing?

Thanks,

SBS 2011 POP3 Mail Connector size limits

$

Hello,

I am having trouble finding the size limit configuration location for the POP3 connector on SBS 2011.  I have a customer who is unable to receive email's larger than 20MB through the POP3 connector.  All other messages are delivered as expected.  I have followed this article http://exchangepedia.com/2007/09/exchange-server-2007-setting-message-size-limits.html in order to increase the size limits on the TransportConfig, Connectors, and Mailbox for this particular user, but I am still unable to retrieve these messages.  I have increased to 50MB and the email messages have attachments totally aprox. 20MB.

Here's the error I see in the pop3service.log.

[t 0] 11/14/11, 11:30:36: WARNING: Item 1 is too big (13129930 > 10485760) to download. (pop.domain.ext:110:"emailalias")
[t 0] 11/14/11, 11:30:36: WARNING: Item 2 is too big (13133957 > 10485760) to download. (pop.domain.ext:110:"emailalias")
[t 0] 11/14/11, 11:30:36: WARNING: Item 3 is too big (21643551 > 10485760) to download. (pop.domain.ext:110:"emailalias")
[t 0] 11/14/11, 11:30:36: WARNING: Item 4 is too big (21636814 > 10485760) to download. (pop.domain.ext:110:"emailalias")
[t 0] 11/14/11, 11:30:37: EVENT: One or more messages (4) were left in the 'emailalias' account on the POP3 server 'pop.domain.ext' because they are larger than the maximum acceptable message size (the largest message is 21643551 bytes). You can either connect to the POP3 account and retrieve or delete the messages manually, or increase the maximum acceptable message size in Exchange Server.

I assume that I need to raise the size limit on the POP3 connector as well?

Thx!

Redirects for companyweb and RWW

The original adminstrator disabled/removed a bunch of stuff on this server.  I've since went back in and recreated all the sites but am having some redirect issues.

Having a problem where if we type in the address http://companyweb, it doesn't go directly to the internal website, rather it goes to the default IIS7 web page.  If we type inhttp://companyweb/SitePages/Home.aspx or go the the :987 site, it works fine though.  I think there is a problem somewhere where it redirects.  We're also having the same problem with the remote public site.  If we go directly to https://remote.domain.com it works fine but if we go tohttp://remote.domain.com it doesn't automatically redirect to the proper remote page.

Is this a problem with IIS? Where could this be corrected?

Sending out via SMTP smarthost on SBS Server2003

There are 2 places to add a smart host under Exchange System Manager.

(1) Servers > Protocols > SMTP > Right click on Default Virtual Server and select properties > Delivery tab > Advanced

(2) Connectors > General tab > SmallBusiness SMTP Connector

What's the difference? and what takes priority?

SBS 2011 - Removing unwanted redirected folders

$

On an SBS 2011 Standard server, I'm trying to delete the redirected folders, Desktop, My Documents etc. of some employees no longer with the company. The employees in question are no longer on the system as 'Users'. I've logged in as the Network Administrator and tried to delete them via 'Explorer', without success. I've then gone in and taken ownership of the folders in question, but the system still won't let me delete them. It says I need permission from 'myself'....i.e. it comes up with the domain and my name. How can I delete these folders?

A dozen problems with SBS 2011

I just started an internship with a ~40 employee company and the SBS 2011 server here is all kinds of messed up. Here is a list of most of the problems:

  • WSUS broken (suspect KB2720211)
    • I have uninstalled, reinstalled & reconfigured WSUS; no help (actually worse, back to where it was 3 weeks ago… 0% functional).
  • Server not updating via WSUS or Windows Update (WSUS was pushing updates to clients when it worked, but not installing updates on servers… The last updates to the server were over a month ago. Trying via Windows Update fails with “Unknown Error”.
  • Unable to update Sharepoint using psconfig
11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  INF             Resource retrieved id ServiceConnectionPointNotCreatedEventLog is Unable to create a Service Connection Point in the current Active Directory domain. Verify that the SharePoint container exists in the current domain and that you have rights to write to it.

    11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  INF           Leaving function StringResourceManager.GetResourceString

11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  WRN           Unable to create a Service Connection Point in the current Active Directory domain. Verify that the SharePoint container exists in the current domain and that you have rights to write to it.

    at Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.UpgradeTask.Run()
  • Event ID 3760 SharePoint_ConfigurationDatabase not found every half hour in event viewer.
  • NAS is unable to get users & groups from AD via join domain or LDAP.
    • NAS also unable to register with DNS - I'm working with QNAP tech support, but I don't believe it's actually a problem with QNAP, I think it's a problem with SBS.
  • Snapshots regularly failing in Backup Exec, I'm thinking that is a Symantec problem, but wanted to mention it in case it is actually a SBS problem.
  • Applying IE Branding policy shows up at logon even though I've removed IE branding settings from all GPOs. IE branding shows up in GP Results Summary, nowhere to be found in GP Results Settings.
  • U:\ drive not mapping, same settings as X,Y,Z drives that do map.
  • One user Unable to share Outlook Calendar, “Error while preparing to send sharing message”
  • Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security 7.0 isn’t integrating with SBS Console.
  • Windows Power Management: The Server cannot query power management configuration
  • Error while performing BPA scan: “invoke-mbcamodel failed”
    • Switched “Run As” from “System” to “Administrator” in task scheduler -hopefully that fixes it.

  • Best practices analyzer was throwing a fit over _MSDCS in DNS. Following the instructions at http://networkadminkb.com/KB/a218/how-to-correct-dns-event-id-4521.aspx was the only fix that worked on this system (all the "standard" fixes that seem to work for others with _MSDCS problems didn't work for me).

Any help would be terrific. Even if it's only one thing, that's one thing off the list.

Windows 8 was just installed on my new samsung chronos 7 laptop, and I am now told that windows 8 is incompatable with my office server run by microsoft small business server 2003, so I cannot successfully open my office email using exchange.  The install was done at a microsoft brick and mortor store, and they were unaware of the incompatibilty, or did not check for it, and cannot seem to find a work around.  Is microsoft going to offer a fix?  will the new windows 8 phone work with my older server?  could i tether the laptop to my system 7 phone?

I have successfully completed all the steps in migration from SBS08 to SBS11, and I was trying to demote the old SBS08 server.

1: I removed the cert services from the SBS08 server.

2: When running dcpromo to remove the SBS08 server I recieve the following error:

"The directory service was unable to transfer ownership of one or more floating single-master operations roles to other servers"

When I run the following command on the SBS08 server netdom query fsmo I get the following.

Schema Master: SBS11.xxx.local

Domain Naming Master SBS08.xx.local

PDC SBS08.xx.local

RID Pool manager SBS11.xx.local

Infastructure Master SBS11.xx.local

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unexpected shutdown

Hello,

Running SBS 2011 Essentials SP1. The system was installed in January 2012 and was running without any problems. Since clock change at October 28th the system stops four times with an unexpected shutdown. Any relationship with the clock change??
Of course the shutdowns happens not within normal working hours.

Two times there was also a BSOD, after switching on the monitor. But this happens hours after the shutdown. I have no explanation for this behaviour and I can't find any reason for the shutdowns within the errorlogs.

Recent Windows-Updates were installed at October 24th from WSUS, not finding any patch in error
Scanning the complete machine with Symantec EP 12.1 was successful.
Also the hardware/memory test runs without problems.
All VPN connections are disabled for testing with no improvement.
All scheduled taks running without any errors. Furthermore there is no time scheme visible.

No more ideas where I can find the cause for the shutdowns.

Thanks in advance.

SBS 2011 cannot start VSS writer NTDS

$

Good morning everyone,

The VSS writer instance NTDS is failed starting. Due to this problem Volume Shadow Copy does not work and the back-up software of my client stops working.

vssadmin list writers gives:

Writer name: 'NTDS'
   Writer Id: {b2014c9e-8711-4c5c-a5a9-3cf384484757}
   Writer Instance Id: {05d55de7-6430-4fc2-bada-9e1781d21dd2}
   State: [1] Failed
   Last error: Unrecoverable error

I have found steps to re-register the VSS writers but that procedure is for Server 2008 and I am not sure if it cannot harm.

Please help.

Thank you.
