Fixing journal wrap

$

0

Hi

SBS 2011 std.

The server has gone into journal wrap. Its the only server in the network. Can I use below steps to fix it safely?

Thanks

Regards

1. Stop the File Replication Service.

Use the service manager to stop the File Replication Service, or NET STOP NTFRS

2.Set BurFlags to 0xD4

Use RegEdit to locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process at Startup

Edit the BURFLAGS value and set to 0xD4 (= Authoratative Restore). This will cause the FRS service to rebuild its database from existing file content and become the authoritative sync partner - even though SBS is the only sync partner, this is still necessary.

3.Start the File Replication Service

Use the service manager to start the File Replication Service (NET START NTFRS).
When the FRS service is restarted, the following actions occur:
•The value for the BurFlags registry key is set back to 0.
• An event 13566 is logged to signal that an authoritative restore is started.
•Files in the reinitialized FRS replicated directories remain unchanged and become authoritative on direct replication. Additionally, the files become indirect replication partners through transitive replication.
•The FRS database is rebuilt based on current file inventory.
•When the process is complete, an event 13516 is logged to signal that FRS is operational. If the event is not logged, there is a problem with the FRS configuration.

Anyone is running Trend Micro WFBS 9.0 on SBS 2003?

The SBS2003 is currently running WFBS 6.0
We are planning to upgrade it to 9.0 but are concerned if 9.0 will slow down this old server too much.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any input.

Renewal of CN=Sites & Exchange Certs on SBS2011 now causing problems with OWA

$

Hey all,

I am having issues mainly with accessing OWA and feel this was stemmed from a renewal of the Exchange Certificate and our CN=Sites certificate.

I am pretty new to CA’s exchange certs etc. so will need to know what I have done in order to view OWA properly. Our mail flow is fine but just accessing OWA is a problem and want to be able to make sure this is fixed, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our Specs

SBS 2011 Standard

Exchange 2010 Version: 14.2.0387.000

What I did to renew the Exchange Certs.

Opened EMC > Server Configuration > Exchange Certs

Clicked on New Exchange Cert – This is where I went wrong (I am guessing).

Went in to IIS7 Manager > Renewed on existing CN=mail. Certificate. Then renewed the certificate I created.

For some stupid reason, I then I went back into EMC and assigned the IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP services to both of the CN=mail. Certificates.

I now have two CN=mail. Certificates which are being used for IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP services but when I open OWA now I get a log in page that looks like this;

One thing I have notices is that when I highlight Server Configuration, then click actions, I have notices two servers that I able to configure which is throwing me out a little – may not be anything but I feel this is linked L

Exchange Certificate view is below

I have tried the following steps in order to fix the issue but they obviously haven’t worked;

Exporting then removing Certificate with Thumbprint 22 fe e3> Transferring the services over to cert with Thumbprinted 1c. When I went to transfer to Thumbprint ed 1c, it said something like there is no server located to issue the services to the selected certificate, so I then panicked and imported the CertificateL

One thing I also notices is when I go to OWA > Click on the certificates, I see there is no CA in the certificate path.

I will let you guys (the pro’s to help me with this one) but I feel that some services are being used by one of certs and need to merge these certificates OR it has something to do with the renewing of the CN=Sites Cert?

Any help would greatly appreciated J

If you need more info, just let me know.

SBS 2011 smarthost email hanging in outbound queue with no delivery

Having an issue with smtp outbound mail. When sending email outbound the mail just hangs and does not leave the queue to be delivered. I have done a bunch of troubleshooting and have been now able to telnet to the mail server on port 25 and also port 1025 which is the final port I'd like to use. But it still doesn't go out.

When I first was troubleshooting the issue I needed to use the fix my network to correct networking issues. I also reran the connect to the internet and setup your internet address to see if it cleared anything. That didn't work.

I keep getting these errors
451 4.4.0
421 4.2.1
400 4.4.7

Any help is appreciated.

SBS2011 high avalibility

We have a client who has SBS2011 on a Dell PowerEdge with mirrored drives.

Last week one of the mirrored drives failed for some reason it didn't failover cleanly resulting in down time and eseutil repairing the Exchange database.

We are planning on using Storagecraft backup to image the drive, is it possible to have a stand by server as a backup domain controller and Exchange 2010 and copy and mount the exchange database on this server, I know we will have to change the port forwarding, but I'm a bit concerned how remote users will connect will I need another SSL certificate for the second server

I'm aiming to get email and files back in about 4 hours

Any help would be appreciated

Microsoft Exchange Transport Service has been stopped.

I changed out failing drives on a customers SBS 2011 which uses Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I saw that it had an option to email a failing condition to up to three addresses. I configured it but got the Could Not Connect error from the RST software. I Googled the condition and determined that I needed to install another Receive Connector on a different port, which is what I tried.

I opened all of the receive connectors in the MS Exchange Console - Server Configuration - Hub Transport section. As far as I know I did not change anything there, I just looked and cancelled. None of the new receive connectors I configured worked., Everytime one configuration made no difference I deleted the connector, re added a connector using different options and tried the RST email test again.

Getting nowhere, I deleted the last new connector I configured, Closed the Exchange management console figuring I had a job for some time in the future when things were slow.

This morning I get the call No e-mail, and found the Exchange Transport Service stopped. I restarted it, made sure it was set to automatic, and it ran for about 3 minutes and then stopped. Right now I am keeping my customer working by starting the service every 5 to 10 minutes.

Since I am not going to stay here indefinitely restarting the service, I need help!

Need NL setupdisc Windows SBS 2003 NL to deinstall Exchange and Demote server

Hi,

To finally demote and phase out a good old Windows 2003 SBS server, we need to uninstall Exchange 2003 first. For deinstallation the deinstallation proces needs the second (2) Windows Small Business 2003 setup CD to complete this step.

Problem is that we don't have the original CD's. Because it's an Dutch Windows version, do I need the Dutch CD also? Without the CD i can't  deinstall Exchange 2003. Maybe CD number 2 can be downloaded from the internet? Old Trial maybe? Any help would be great!

Server 2008 SBS "No Operating System Found" Migration to New Hardware

$

Hello!

I have a question.  We recently tried to migrate one of our customers from an HP 2008 Small Business Server SBS to another HP server (A new hardware migration) and we recieved a "No operating system found" right after the reboot of the system. Here is the steps, as it happened.

  1. Did all of the prep work on the source server (including creating an answer file)
  2. Created a 1 + 0 hardware raid on the destination server
  3. Connected the two servers on the same network subnet
  4. Inserted the 2008 SBS DVD in to the Destination server drive
  5. Plugged in the USB flash drive with the answer file on it
  6. Booted to the DVD, ran the install
  7. During the install, we converted our 600 GB of free space into primary partition: 120 GB, secondary partions: 120 GB, 300 GB
  8. Then the server rebooted as part of the install, and when the server came up, it said "no operating system found"

Typically, I would think this problem is caused by a MBR or a hard drive failure issue, but I don't think that is the case in this situation.

Any advice/help?

Migrating from a Windows SBS 2008 domain to Windows Server 2012 Standard

$

Hello All,

I have seen past questions on this but responses were from January so I am re-asking a question that has already been posed to this forum but, is there a clear cut way of migrating from Windows SBS 2008 running AD and Exchange 2007 to Windows Server 2012 Standard (Not Essentials) set-up as a DC and then have a separate server running Server 2012 Standard for Exchange 2013?  The eventual goal being to decommission the Exchange 2007 server running on the SBS 2008 and demote the Windows SBS 2008 DC and then wipe out the SBS 2008 box and reload with either 2012 standard or 2008 standard and re-purpose.  I have spent a lot of time researching this and have yet to see any specific documentation on this or even anyone stating they have done it.  I know it can be done (because in IT anything is possible) but as this is my first experience with SBS server, not to mention Microsoft's latest versions of server OS and Exchange 2013, I am unsure of the caveats and any specific steps required with Small business server.  The environment I came from, just to give you a background, was all Server 2008 Standard with Exchange 2010. I have done migrations, a long time ago it feels at this point, from Exchange 2003 to 2007 and eventually 2010 but always on there own standalone boxes not on a DC much less a SBS DC at that. I know that SBS has to have all of the server roles or it starts to shutdown on its own but as I stated before I am looking to move completely off of SBS all together.  What I am hoping for is specific info dealing with SBS 2008 and Exchange 2007 running on it and the move process to Server 2012 and Exchange 2013.  I have seen some docs on other versions of SBS and Server Standard but typically those documents to not cover the "watch outs" for Exchange and none discuss server 2012 and Exchange 2013 specifically.  Any insight, help, suggestions, options, and/or ideas would be fantastic.  I thank everyone in advance and look forward to discussing this with you all.

Sincerely,

SJITGuy

Approximately 364 MSIcxxxx.LOG files created in c:\windows\temp directory at 7:06am every morning.

I am running SBS 2011 Standard sp1 on a Dell T310 server.

After noticing that something was consuming a lot of disk space I was able to track down that approximately 364 MSIc...LOG (Ex: MSIc7e21.log, MSIc7e22.LOG, etc.) files were being created every day at approximately 7:06am in the c:\windows\temp directory.

This first started on 5/6/2014.

Just as an FYI, we track all changes on the server and on 5/5/2014 we successfully installed patch KB2964358 after serveral prior attempts on prior days failed.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or have any information or thoughts about what is causing this problem?

Thanks

Howard

Remote or Autodiscover?

$

Hi Everyone,

I've been given the task of fixing an error that a customer gets when opening up outlook. He's got a Small Business Server which he uses directly in the office (ie he logs in to the SBS to use as an office PC) and he also uses it to remotely access email.

OWA is set to remote.domain.co.uk/owa and works without any problems. The certificate is fine, no issues.

Outlook on the other hand is not happy, claiming that the name of the certificate doesn't match the site. It is looking for autodiscover.domain.co.uk, and is presented with a cert for remote.domain.co.uk

I am using the srv record method as is standard with an SBS, and have removed any instance of autodiscover hostnames on the public DNS, and yet it is still seeming to want to get a certificate with autodiscover as the name of the cert.

The image below is for the autodiscover test, which passes, but with a warning. Would this warning cause the issue?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give!

Running out of IP addresses

$

We have a SBS 2008 R2 and have configured a 10.1.1.0/24 network. That means, we can have a maximum of 254 hosts in our currently configured network.

We are now running short of IP addresses due to wireless devices such as notebooks, smartphones and tablets along with a newly configured IP-phone system.

What's the best way of expanding our network to cater for more hosts? My ideas:

  1. Resubnetting i.e. using a 10.1.1.0/23 which would give me 510 Hosts.
  2. Creating VLANs for our wireless devices.
  3. Having our wireless devices in separate subnets, with routing between the subnets.

Any ideas & tips would be greatly appreciated.

Boot drive is almost full

The C drive on a SBS 2011 Standard server is showing 599meg free out of 146 gig. It is getting dangerously full.

I have initiated a Move the WUSU files to the E drive where there is plenty of space. It seems to be doing it very slowly and I am not sure if it is working properly.

What are other things that I can do to move or clear out logs files that are no longer needed.

We are using the native backup within 2011 SBS and use rotating drives 2 TB a piece.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Server 2003 to 2008 DCPromo fails - "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

$

I've done the adprep32 on 2003 server standard for /forestprep, /domainprep, and /rodcprep without an error, as instructed by several docs on web.  But in final stage of dcpromo on 2008 server standard, it fails with

Active Directory Domain Service could not replicate the directory partion CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local from the remote Active Directory Domain Controller Old-DC."The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

I've found several docs online, but non-helped.  After about 20 hours of numbing fingers, I found docs to manually move DNS and DHCP from 2003 server to 2008 server.  But the Active Directory on 2008 server won't start because I can't get that DCPromo to finish.

Is there a way to manually move the login ID's and passwords to 2008 server and activate the Active Directory Service?

Thanks.

I am having an issue with my SBS 2011 sharepoint company web and sync shared calendar with outlook.

Here is the error.

Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x00040102) : 'Outlook cannot connect to the SharePoint List (Companyweb - Calendar). The server may not be reachable from your location. Contact the SharePoint site administrator for more information.  HTTP 0. An error occurred connecting to http://companyweb. A connection tohttps://remote.mycompany.com:987, an alternate Web address for this SharePoint site, will be attempted.'

I tried to look at the alternate address but tried to change but was not able to. Not that familiar with sharepoint

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance
