Network fax setup in SBS 2011

$

We are running SBS 2003 and have the network faxing setup for both incoming and outgoing faxes and it works great.  We are moving to SBS 2011 next week and I am reading the faxing does not work the same in  SBS 2011.  We have a 'shared fax printer' on the server now which is also installed on all the PC's, when they want to fax they 'print' to that printer and the fax dialog comes up.  On the incoming side there is a external modem connected to the server and when it recieves a fax it places it in a public folder in Exchange.  Everyone can see that folder in Exchange and then they can view or print the faxes.  Can it be setup to work this same way in SBS 2011??

Thanks

SBS 2008 SP2, Exchange 2007 Cannot send email to certain email address's

I currently have a smart host setup, but would like to move away from this. I had another thread opened about this but nothing was resolved. I have done some in depth investigating and I watched the connectivity logs and my server just keeps repeating Established connection but never connects, the mail just sits in my queue with a 421 4.4.2 Connection Dropped error. I can send to many other email address's but there is about 12 I cannot send to this includes hotmail.com, aol.com, msn.com, I am able to send to my gmail account just fine.  I can post the logs, any help is much appreciated.

I watched the logs come through on a receiving server and my header isn't coming across the way I want it to.

I am trying to install a database application and I need to create a new instance of database.  On my windows sbs 2011 standard I already have a sqlserver 2008 is installed.  I would like to login as a 'sa' and create the new database instead of using the windows authentication.

What is the default password for 'sa' account.  I tried my system password it did not work.

Can I completely uninstall the Sql 2008 r2 server that came with the system and install a new sql express version.  Is it ok.

I would appreciate any help.

Autoconfigure not working correctly

I have set up autoconfigure in my public DNS and it appears to be OK if I go to https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com but when I try to setup outlook from a remote machine I get these errors.

1. It gives me a prompt for a username and password that I must change to domain\email format before it will work.
-Shouldn't it work off the email and password only? (not to big a deal but they are not IT savvy)

2. An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click next to attempt using an unencrypted connection
- I get that error even after buying and setting up a SSL certificate on this server.

3. We are having trouble connecting to your account. verify the settings below and make change if necessary.
- The only thing here is my email address and that is right.

According to this it should all be automatic - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/5e09525a-b96e-4481-8278-938085f41789

SBS 2008 Dead Screen and Dead Remote Desktop

$

Hi,

Our SBS 2008 R2 SP2 server has a problem previously described, but there doesn't seem to be any answers.
Once booted we can interact with the screen, but overnight or after an extended period of time the screen freezes up. First thought, screen card problem.

But then you try remote desktop which works the first time, then the next time you try it it gets stuck on the welcome screen and goes no further.

Errors we see happening around the time when the remote desktop fails are as follows:
4 x ID 10009 Source DCOM Type Error... Exceptions with the following message: "DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer MachineName.st1.local using any of the configured protocols"
1 x ID 56 Source TermDD Type Error... The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

After a reboot we get these errors:

1. "ID-10154, Source-WinRM, Type-Warning, Message-The WinRM service failed to create the following SPNs: WSMAN/YODA.starwars.local; WSMAN/Server1.
 Additional Data
The error received was 8344: Insufficient access rights to perform the operation.
 User Action
The SPNs can be created by an administrator using setspn.exe utility.
2. "ID-7026, Source-Service Control Manager, Type-Error, Message-The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: storflt" (Apparently this can be safely ignored)
3. "ID-10149, Source-WinRM, Type-Warning, Message-The WinRM service is not listening for WS-Management requests.
 User Action
If you did not intentionally stop the service, use the following command to see the WinRM configuration:
 winrm enumerate winrm/config/listener
4. "ID-7034, Source-Service Control Manager, Type-Error, Message-The Windows Process Activation Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

There are a few more but they seem to follow the same pattern.

Main thing is ther server is actually up and running, but we can't access it via either the screen itself or remote desktop.

Was a proper solution for this ever found?

Thanks,
Jacques

Print Spooler Very Slow

Hello All,

Our print spooler decided yesterday to start printing very slowly to all network printers. The jobs will eventually go through but they take about 1 - 5 minutes to do anything. Only one printer is fine - that is our Xerox copier. The only thing that got changed out yesterday were two bad netgear switches - went from 10/100 switches to gigabyte ones. I was not sure if it was the switches yesterday so I also deleted our scope in DHCP and created a new one. I thought that there was something wrong since no one could access anything but the server seemed fine. Users are having no problem with accessing network shares or files just printing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have already taken these steps:

1. Restarted the server
2. Restarted all network printers
3. Verified that the printers are online and functioning
4. Restarted the print spooler

SBS 2011 RPC service crashing and causing reboots

We have a problem with a fairly new install (nothing much changed/installed other than added some shares, users and imported mail)... However it's starting to reboot on a regular basis. I doubt it's a hardware fault given that the same service crashes everytime, but you never know. The server is fully patched too, with latest drivers and MS updates. There is no antivirus installed at the moment.

The error log shows:

I did see this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2401588/en-us but not sure it relates to the same issue, faulting module is different.

Anybody experienced this before or know if this hotfix would fix the issue?

Thanks.

connect windows 7 latop to SBS2008 but joined other domain

Hello, I have a laptop that is joined to domain A and sometimes I want to use folders/files on a SBS2008 that is domain B (other location). Why can I not get access to folders on domain B? even with administrator login and password from domain B I cannot login. Is there a security setting in SBS2008 that only allows joined PC's to domain?
Where can I turn this of or is there a better solution?

SBS Sharepoint AppPool stopping (SBS 2011)

Hello

New install of SBS 2011 (migration from SBS 2003) at the weekend. I've insatlled all offered security patches so far EXCEPT Server 2008 R2 SP1 and SharePoint 2010 SP1, which I plan to do this weekend.

When I access companyweb, Application pool "SBS Sharepoint AppPool" is stopping. Companyweb shows a 503.

These are logged in Event Viewer:

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

(for user THRIS\spwebapp)

Windows cannot copy file C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14\Configuration14624_100.sqm to location C:\Users\TEMP.THRIS\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14\Configuration14624_100.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

(for user THRIS\spwebapp)

Windows cannot delete the profile directory C:\Users\TEMP.THRIS. This error may be caused by files in this directory being used by another program.

DETAIL - The directory is not empty.
 DETAIL - Access is denied.

(for user THRIS\spwebapp)

Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, and that your network is functioning correctly.

DETAIL - Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed.

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

Can anyone suggest a safe resolution please? I have not tinkered with anything yet, and I have not attempted any of the steps here:

http://www.thirdtier.net/2011/07/when-sharepoint-companyweb-503s-on-you-heres-how-to-fix-it/

as I wasn't sure it was fully applicable.

Many thanks,

SBS 2003 - Server Backup - "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" within Server Management

$

I have a client running Small Business Server 2003 and they currently use NTBackup to carry out backups.  This works fine but I would prefer them to use the in-built Small Business Server Backup system with it's more user friendly layout etc.

When I open Server Management and click on Backup the following error message is displayed:

A problem has occurred with the Manage Small Business Server Backup snap in.  Close and re-open Server Management.  If this problem continues, restart the IIS Admin Service.

I have of course restarted the ISS Admin Service - in fact the server has also been rebooted.

Clicking on 'Configure Backup' seems to let you set up the backup routine but the main page displays the error above.

Has anyone encountered this error before?

Additionally, I cannot log on to the company web even by entering the correct admin logon details.

however, i want to try and establish a connection to WHS and awake machines on my LAN using mstsc directly from a remote machine. on the advanced dialog box I see these options. i fill them in as shown and try to connect.

When i press connect i get this:

However after putting in my whs administrator username and password i get this error.

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is expecting an authentication method different from the one attempted. Contact your network administrator for assistance."

Anyone know how to get this working?

2 Windows 2k8 SBSs in the same network?

$

Good morning everyone,

A quick question.  I know with Win2k3 SBS that you were only allowed 1 SBS in the network.  Is that the case still with Windows 2k8 SBS?  I checked the Technet FAQs and couldn't find a solid answer, and all my previous years in IT have been enterprise class networks, so I'm a little iffy around SBS.

Thanks!

SBS 2003 MOVING MDB DATA STORE

Our server is running low of disk space, so I've added RAID-1 1TB drive set that I'm planning on moving on MDB file to.  Currently our Public Folders and Mailbox store are 50GB.

Can I simply dismount the store, move the files, and remount in the new location.  Does this require running a repair or integrity check if the files have been moved?

(HTTP 404 Not Found) When Browsing http://companyweb

I'm not sure what happened, as it was working fine a short time ago. This issue manifests on the server as well as the workstations. RWW works fine. I found numerous threads and investigated the suggestions posted there.

The Fix My Network wizard resolved one of the 2 issues it found, but wasn't able to resolve the other one. The one it resolved was 'An Internet port mapping is missing'. The one it couldn't resolve is 'A network component is not configured properly. (Component ID 4)'. The information about that suggests that the TSGateway service is not configured to use an SSL certificate, but the article didn't give clear instructions on how to resolve that. Anyway, it's not when trying to use https that this issue manifests. If I use https I get another error:

HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden

The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.

The BPA reported 2 issues: the SharePoint log getting large (I let the MS Fixit tool take care of that) and it reported that the server disk space is low (I'm working on that one, but after running the Fixit that shows a green check in the SBS Console's Storage tab).

Here are screenshots of the possible related issues in IIS that I've found:

Thanks in advance!
