I recently started getting a popup warning "Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured" when I log into one of my client's SBS 2011 servers. It says that Remote Desktop Services will stop working in a certain number of days. I prompts me to use the RD Session Host Server Configuration program to specify a licensing server.
1) I don't know why I would start seeing this error since SBS 2011 only allows a Licensing Mode of Remote Desktop for Administration. I have no need to allow more than two concurrent remote connections.
2) I tried following the instructions of the popup message and set licensing server as the SBS server. Then I realized that this doesn't work because the server doesn't have Licensing Services running and it cannot be installed on the SBS 2011 platform. Now I cannot remove this incorrect entry from the licensing server list. I click remove and ok, but no change is made in the configuration.
I really just want Remote Desktop for Administration to work with no popup warning. Is there any way to clean this up? In this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/5ce657cc-30f3-46af-ba13-d3c55c2115af/ Supergumby mentioned that it would be necessary for someone in a similar situation to completely reinstall SBS 2011. I'm really hoping someone knows a better way.
