We are running SBS 2008, which is fully patched up. I have 3 SAS drives in a RAID 5 configuration with partitions C, D (Exchange), and E (Data). I've moved everything typical except the WSUS database off the C partition (that is getting moved within the next couple of days) and have cleaned out most of the logs but am still running out of room. Like so many others I need to expand my C partition. I have plenty of spare room on both partitions D and E.
I understand that I can not do this through the Window utilities without deleting and recreating partitions because when I shrink D and/or E the free area will not be behind C where it needs to be. I would really rather not have to delete and recreate partitions if I can avoid it. I've read this link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/smallbusinessserver/thread/e65b44d4-794b-453e-8d45-8a57cbaa916c but that concept would get really complicated with 3 partitions.
My current third party back up tool does not have options for partition resizing. I would have to jump through very extensive hoops to get funding to purchase a third party tool to do this job. Has anyone had a good experience using one of the free or trial tools to do this? If so, which ones actually work as advertised? (Yes, I will definitely do several backups before starting.)
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. Pat
