A dozen problems with SBS 2011

I just started an internship with a ~40 employee company and the SBS 2011 server here is all kinds of messed up. Here is a list of most of the problems:

  • WSUS broken (suspect KB2720211)
    • I have uninstalled, reinstalled & reconfigured WSUS; no help (actually worse, back to where it was 3 weeks ago… 0% functional).
  • Server not updating via WSUS or Windows Update (WSUS was pushing updates to clients when it worked, but not installing updates on servers… The last updates to the server were over a month ago. Trying via Windows Update fails with “Unknown Error”.
  • Unable to update Sharepoint using psconfig
11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  INF             Resource retrieved id ServiceConnectionPointNotCreatedEventLog is Unable to create a Service Connection Point in the current Active Directory domain. Verify that the SharePoint container exists in the current domain and that you have rights to write to it.

    11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  INF           Leaving function StringResourceManager.GetResourceString

11/15/2012 14:24:29  12  WRN           Unable to create a Service Connection Point in the current Active Directory domain. Verify that the SharePoint container exists in the current domain and that you have rights to write to it.

Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The object LDAP://CN=Microsoft SharePoint Products,CN=System,DC=domain,DC=local doesn't exist in the directory.

    at Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.UpgradeTask.Run()
  • Event ID 3760 SharePoint_ConfigurationDatabase not found every half hour in event viewer.
  • NAS is unable to get users & groups from AD via join domain or LDAP.
    • NAS also unable to register with DNS - I'm working with QNAP tech support, but I don't believe it's actually a problem with QNAP, I think it's a problem with SBS.
  • Snapshots regularly failing in Backup Exec, I'm thinking that is a Symantec problem, but wanted to mention it in case it is actually a SBS problem.
  • Applying IE Branding policy shows up at logon even though I've removed IE branding settings from all GPOs. IE branding shows up in GP Results Summary, nowhere to be found in GP Results Settings.
  • U:\ drive not mapping, same settings as X,Y,Z drives that do map.
  • One user Unable to share Outlook Calendar, “Error while preparing to send sharing message”
  • Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security 7.0 isn’t integrating with SBS Console.
  • Windows Power Management: The Server cannot query power management configuration
  • Error while performing BPA scan: “invoke-mbcamodel failed”
    • Switched “Run As” from “System” to “Administrator” in task scheduler -hopefully that fixes it.

  • Best practices analyzer was throwing a fit over _MSDCS in DNS. Following the instructions at http://networkadminkb.com/KB/a218/how-to-correct-dns-event-id-4521.aspx was the only fix that worked on this system (all the "standard" fixes that seem to work for others with _MSDCS problems didn't work for me).

Any help would be terrific. Even if it's only one thing, that's one thing off the list.
