How do I access and unpack a SBS backup and copy the files manually without recovering system status or doing bare metal recovery (which doesn't work)

I would like to gain access to my backups manually to find some of the files I need to complete a re-install of SBS 2011.

Does anyone know how to gain access to the files in the backups created in SBS 2011 Server Management Console from a new install of SBS2011 please?
