I have recently taken over a site that has SBS 2008 SP2 as it’s sole server.
As part of my investigations into what initially appeared to be simple issues, I found problems that show the server to be in a very bad state.
Following services are not started and error when attempting to start.
Windows Internal Database (MICROSOFT##SSEE) - Event log reports "The Windows Internal Database (MICROSOFT##SSEE) service terminated with service-specific error 17058 (0x42A2)"
Distributed Transaction Coordinator - Event log reports "The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service terminated with service-specific error 3221229584 (0xC0001010)"
Sharepoint and WSUS are non functional, which is understandable as the Windows Internal Database service is not running. I am not able to uninstall or repair these.
Therefore the internal website is not accessible.
I am not able to update the Exchange service pack as the DTC service is not running.
There are about 60 security patches to be installed and all of these fail.
Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service and utility will not run. There is no management website setup for this however, the virtual directories are under the Default Website (which was shutdown). Cannot manage this even when the Default Website is up.
I logged on to the server this morning and I saw a popup saying that Windows must be reinstalled.
Having said all this, users are able to access files, email, print and the internet.
I am new to SBS and require advice as to best way to proceed.
Regards,
PK
