SBS2010 Sharpoint Timer Service has Stopped and will not restart

Hi

I have this error on my server. The server is 2 months old, and no password policies have been changed for anyone, in fact the policy is the default from installation.

Nothing has been done with sharepoint as it is not really used actively by anyone, so no pages created, only the default SBS stuff.

However Yesterday the Sharpoint Timer Services stopped running, I got an email to restart it. I went into the services to restart it and get;

Error 1069: The service did not start due to logon failure

In the error logs i have Event ID 7000 failed to start due to logon failure
and
Event ID 7038 SPTimerV4 service was unable to start unable to log on to Domain\SPFarm with the currently configure password due to the following error: logon failure: unknown username or bad password.

Any ideas? are these related? is this a separate issue? I get the timer service error email every 30mins. Everything else seems to be working backups, remote work place etc.

Further to this I have seen a lot refers to running the PSCONFIG

No updates have been done to the server for a few weeks - this error happened 2 days ago(with the service stopping and not being able to be started)

As far as I know I haven;t done any sharpoint updates in the last month - although I could be wrong, and things seem to have normally been running, however I do accept I may have actually updated sharepoint and its running off the old version (i believe it does until PSCFONIG is run) which may be the reason the SPFarm log on isn;t working.

Would it actually hurt just to run the PSCONFIG even if an update hasn't happened?
Is it something I should do?
Is it something I should try?

Thanks

Tris
