Hi Folks,
I think I've pretty much exhausted my research on this one so I'm reaching out for some help. I'm no IT expert so please be gentle...
I've migrated from SBS 2003 to 2011 following the Microsoft guide. At around 2.00am each morning I get a 10009 Error in my System log:
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer MyServer.Domain.local using any of the configured protocols.
This references the old SBS 2003 server that is no longeron the network (it's turned off).
I have managed to reproduce the triggering of this problem by running the latest Best Practices Analyzer (posts 10009's to the event log). After much digging (I'm learning on the fly) I discovered "Active Directory Administrative Center", which when issuing a query on the Scope: Global Catalog Search - Domain.local I found some references to the old server name (MyServer) and consequently found and removed these using "ADSI edit" (it took some time to map the path from "Active Directory Administrative Center" to ADSI edit). I did a reboot thinking I'd found and fixed the issue...
I then ran BPA (version 1.4) after the reboot and still see the same 10009 events in my logs.
The closest thread I've seen to this issue is:
However, that appears to have no resolution (that I can find, or folks who walked thi spath seem to have resolved the issue). Many other articles refer to firewall and naturally I've looked in to that, however, this is a case of trying to communicate with a machine that no longer exists. Also printer errors are often talked about, but the old server had no printer connected. Data posted to the log is provided below, (I changed the server names and domain name).
Any help would be very grateful as I've been staring at this for a long time!
Thanks, Longtrail
