Hello,
We plan to upgrade our network operating system from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 later on in the year. We run Outlook 2003 on our clients.
We have several email addresses which we use to receive and send mail. The domain name is handled by our office in New York and the MX record points to the hosting provider in the States.
On our current SBS 2003 server we use POP3 to download the emails and we have 'dummy' user accounts in AD to use as mailboxes for retrieving and sending emails which are configured in Outlook 2003 on the clients. Not everyone needs to use all the email addresses that we have.
I have tried to find a way to replicate the current email/mailbox scenario on a test server running SBS 2011. I have been partially successful but not completely and I wondered whether there are any products available commercially that might assist us to achieve a seamless resolution. For example, a user may need to send and receive email from three or four external email addresses (such asjoe@example.com, office@example.com, info@example.com). Receiving email too is just as important as sending emails.
I have tried probably every known workaround known to man (or woman) that is available on the various Exchange Forums and have found none of them reliable. They work for a time and then return error messages. Some can send external emails but not receive, and some the other way around, and others neither.
I am sure there are others out there who have had similar experiences and I would be grateful to hear from you. I must have spent several weeks trying to figure out the best way to proceed and I am now back to square one again.
Thank you for listening.
Mark
