A curious case of missing HDD space in Win SBS 2003 R2

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right forum to post questions related to Win SBS 2003 R2, if not please let me know then I'll move this post right away.

I've just connected our Win SBS 2003 R2 server to the internet a couple days ago since its first installation back in 2006, it's been a while I know, but I finally decided it was the time. During the first installation of Win SBS 2003 R2, I didn't pay much attention how much space it took in the C:\ partition, but I remember there was quite much free space after I've installed everything (that includes the SQL Server that came along with the Premium edition).

The problem: during the automatic update a couple days ago, I was informed by the Win SBS 2003 R2 that I'm running low on HDD space, when I checked it out there was only less than 1GB of free space available. I immediately stopped the updates installation, and then delete the unnecessary files to free up some space.

At the end of the day, here's the detail of free HDD space I got left:

HDD C:\ used space: 11.7GB, free space: 1.20GB

And here's a quick list of what are the files inside C:\ partition:

  • Documents and Settings: 389MB
  • DRV: 29.7MB
  • IBM_Support: 573MB
  • Inetpub: 31.1MB
  • Program Files: 3.21GB
  • UXLOG: 512bytes
  • WINDOWS: 6.53GB

So where has all of the free space gone to?

I was wondering if this got to do with one of the workstation computers (run on XP Pro) also got updated during the Win SBS 2003 R2 update, maybe all of the XP Pro updates saved in the server? But if this is the case, I don't the XP Pro updates in the drive C:\ partition.

Anyone can help me out here?

Dhow here.
