I have a Windows 2008 server running as a HyperV Virtual machine on a SBS Server 2008. It is primarily used for remote desktop clients.
The server seems to run fine most of the time but once every 2 weeks or so the server cannot be successfully logged in to. The users (or administrator) can enter their network details but then the server just sits at the 'applying user settings' screen and never progresses. The only way around it is to do a hard shutdown of the server and restart it, then it is fine for a few weeks.
I checked the eventviewer and there are a few things in the application log at the times this issue is experienced:
Applog errors:
Winlogon event ID 6005, 6006 and 6001
User Profile service Event ID 1530
ShadowProtect event ID 1121
VSS Event ID 7001, 12289 (only appeared at the 26th)
It looks like the ShadowCopy svc event are caused by the server reboot, but the VSS erros are earlier at 720am
Syslog errors:
A single event ID 56 then a string of Event ID 7011
I have quite a bit of research on these errors and have not found a solution yet. It is odd that the problem is intermittent as well. Any suggestions?
