A user reported that there was an issue with the sharepoint timer:
Server has reported an alert:
Sharepoint 2010 timer service has been stopped.
It suggests re-starting it using services.msc application.
This service would not start due to an authentication error. I ran the SP configuration and was having great trouble resetting the password. When asking it to generate a new password, I would get an error saying the password did not meet the complexity requirements. To get past this issue I (with great apprehension) set the password manually. It got the service running, and other SP services seemed to be OK.
However, a few days later, things have gone haywire. The user reported that the company website (http://companyweb) was getting 503, service unavailable. This is due the share point app pools not running. I restarted them, and as soon as a request is made to the website, the app pool dies again. I have followed several posts to try and resolve this, but most end up failing with errors before really getting started. For example, one post recommended to run the Sharepoint Products Configuration Wizard, which failed with an error. "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown"
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
