SBS 2008 R2 Internet Printing (IPP): Really obscure port problem

I am trying to set up internet printing (IPP) on SBS 2008 R2.

Due to Reasons I am running "Default Web Site" as https.

As "SBS Web Applications" (also on https) already uses port 443, anything under "Default Web Site" (like /Printers) is set up to resolve to port 5443.

I am able to browse to the printer list over the internet via https://my.external.address:5443/Printers, drill down to individual printers etc.

However, when I view a printer's properties this way, the address is shown as https://my.external.address/Printers/PrinterName/.printer - without :5443.

Installation via Connect does not work - it gives the usual "Windows couldn't connect to..." error.

If I directly paste https://my.external.address/Printers/PrinterName/.printer into a browser address bar, I get a 404 error.

If I directly paste https://my.external.address:5443/Printers/PrinterName/.printer into a browser address bar, I get a 500 error, meaning the printer is sitting there as suspected, but has (of course) no MIME handler associated with it on IIS.

I conclude that to resolve this issue, I have to somehow change the internal addressing of the actual printers from port 443 to 5443, as SBS 2008 seems to have made the connect string standard SSL, despite the /Printers folder sitting on a custom https port.

I cannot find for the life of me any documentation or mention anywhere on how to do this.

Got any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
