Hello all,
(I originally post this in the 2008 server forum but was told to post here instead)
We currently have a 2003 SBS server that is about 7 years (or so) old and about 50 users who access it. We would like to replace this server and were thinking of getting a 2008 server for AD and file sharing, and a 2nd 2008 server with Exchange 2010. I do
have a couple of questions I would like some advice on:
- Is there any problem breaking a SBS into two separate servers?
- I have replaced other older servers (not SBS) with a newer server and just transferred the FSMO roles after the AD replicated and then demoted the old server. Is that process the same going from SBS to a regular server? For some reason I seem to remember
reading something to the contrary. I can't seem to find the correct documentation. Perhaps somebody knows of some they can point me to.
- I also know that SBS 2011 is still an option for us as well since they are still under the 75 user limit. We were thinking of going with the separate servers to make sure they both had plenty of storage and because we are getting close to SBS 2003's 75gb
email limit and don't want to run into that down the road again. I can't seem to find the SBS 2011 max database size (is it just the same as Exchange 2010?). Just wondering if SBS 2011 would be a better option for us (definitely cheaper than two servers).
I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this and look forward to the feedback.
Jim
