A client currently has a sbs 2003 r2, sbs1. I have migrated exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 on a 2008 r2 server, ex01. I am now trying to migrate the domain controller to another 2008 r2 server, dc1. I am running adprep32.exe /forestprep from the 2008 r2 dvd on the sbs 2003 and getting the following error:
Adprep was unable to complete because the call back function failed.[Status/Consequence]
Error message: Error(5) while running ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\LDIFde.exe" -o ObjectGuid -d "CN=DS-UI-Default-Settings,CN=401,CN=DisplaySpecifiers,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=local" -u -f "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\TMPA633.tmp" -s sbs1.mydomain.local". (0x80004005).

Adprep set the value of registry key System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters\Schema Update Allowed to 0

Adprep was unable to update forest information.
[Status/Consequence]
Adprep requires access to existing forest-wide information from the schema master in order to complete this operation.

Check the log file, ADPrep.log, in the C:\WINDOWS\debug\adprep\logs\20130306142950 directory for more information.
The user I am using is a Schem/Enterprise/Domain admin. I checked the object listed in adsiedit and verified that all those groups have full control. I also looked at the schema objectversion in adsiedit and its 47. When I try to run adprep /domainprep it tell me that I still need to raise the function level of the forest first. Not sure what to check or what that object even does. Can I delete it?
I copied this from the log file. I can upload the entire log file, but its pretty large. I have not found anything with error(5)
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks
Scott
