Hi All!
I have to extend the size of the C: partition on a customers SBS 2008 server. The C: partition is followed by a D: and an F: partition. From everything I've read, unless I want to use a third party tool, I need to remove the D: and F: partitions, extend the C: partition and then re-load the D: and F: partitions from backup. My plan is ultimately to take room from the F: partition. I'm also planning to use diskpart to accomplish all this.
I'm posting this question because I have a couple of questions that are not getting answered in any of the other posts and forums that I have read through.
1) If they are using the backup/restore that is built into SBS2008, does it matter that I will be restoring the F: partition to something that is now smaller, as long as it is still large enough to hold everything that was backed up?
2) Would it be a good idea to defrag the drive once I've removed the D: and F: partitions?
3) What considerations need to be made regarding the fact that there are two physical drives in the machine that mirror each other? Do I need to break the mirror before doing any of the steps mentioned above? If so, then the "mirrored drive" will contain the incorrect partition sizes when I am finished. So do I then have to re-format the mirrored drive before I recreate the mirror?
The whole mirrored issue is the most confusing issue to me on how to do all this cleanly.
Thanks in advance for your time in providing any help with this!
