SBS 2008 viewing redirected folders best practices

Having come from SBS 2003, I’ve been used to the ability to view users redirected folders on the server itself. I used this weekly to make sure mp3’s, personal data, etc. wasn’t on the server and would remind the user to move it to their personal drives.

As you can imagine, the first time I tried to log into a users folder in 2008, I wasn’t able to. I don’t quite understand the reasoning behind why the server/network admin can’t view certain areas of the network. It shouldn’t be a privacy issue, because all equipment is, by rights and law, my equipment being part owner. So, anything on that equipment – data, etc. is company property as well. While I am not trying to understand the legal/moral reasons – all I care about is being able to have complete and unfettered access to this area.

I tried to gain access when I first setup the server and, sadly, don’t remember what I did – but I believe it messed up a user’s redirected folder/files and I want to figure out the best procedure possible.

I also have 2 users that need to be able to see each other’s My Docs redirected folders. They both work sales in the same area and share client info. This is saved in their My Docs and in the past I’ve shared that folder and then mapped the drive. That was 2003, but don’t know the best way in 2008.
