SBS 2003 Slow After Microsoft August 2012 Updates

Hi All,

My compaq proliant ML370 g4 server has slowed down after installing the August 2012 microsoft updates. In particular, our server is running IIS6 and has some custom CGI scripts running. After the microsoft updates, web users began complaining of slow web page response times. When I checked Process Explorer, I saw about a dozen instances of the script (it is not unusal for a up to 25-30 web users to be running this script at a time) -- but the scripts were all running SLOW -- each dominating its fair share of CPU utilization ... slamming the CPU to 100%

I checked microsoft update log history <because nothing else changed to the server or the script>, the following updates installed:

KB890830 - Malicious Software Removal Tool

KB2712808 - Windows Vulnerability Patch - Security update

KB2731847 - Windows Vulnerability Patch - Security update

KB2705219 - Intelligent Message Filter - this SBS 2003 runs Exchange 2003 as well.

KB2722913 - Commulative IE Rollup Security Update

In order to get this production server working again I removed all the updates (couldn't remove KB890830, MSRT does not install to my knowledge just runs once and then cleans up and removes itself) - But I did remove the other four updates.

After removal of the four updates listed above and rebooting the server, performance went back to normal.

Any idea where I should proceed now? I don't like not installing ALL security updates and patches. I guess i can install one at a time until I isolate the culprit (I'm suspecting KB2722913). But after I figure out which update is causing the problem, then what?

ALSO interested to know if anyone else has experienced a problem like this with the August 2012 updates???

Thanks,

--Rick
