Hi,
We have recently installed a brand new server running SBS 2011 Standard SP1. It is an HP ProLiant ML350 G6. It is on a network with about 25 workstations on. Our problem is: We start the server. It will run fine for about a week, and then suddenly (and we can't find a cause) it will suddenly start going so slow. The network speeds are really bad and accessing any files stored on the server takes minutes. It's practically unusable.
The CPU Usage is close to 100% most the time and memory is about 3/4 full. Now we know it is something going on with the processes, but I would like some help to try and find out exactly what is causing this and how to fix it. The processes move around a lot, but the high hitters are System - 35% -50%CPU(aprox), SVCHOST.exe 15%-35%(Aprox), CSRIPT.exe 20%(Aprox). sqlserver.exe also makes an appearance but disappears quite quickly.
It runs like this until we reboot the server. After a reboot system idle sits quite happily at about 95% until suddenly about 5 days later the services start playing up again.
They have Trend AntiVirus - and we have checked to make sure no scheduled scans are running. They use StorageCraft ShadowProtect for a backup which does two incrementals during the day and one full backup at night. This potentially could be causing an issue - but it runs even on the good days so i personally don't think it is responsible.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I could just reboot the server to fix it, but this is only a short term fix.
Kind regards,
Josh
