This is not a migration or upgrade question. The original sbs2003 domain with 30 Win7 (a couple XP) workstations has a failed sbs2003 server. Server is dead and gone. There were no backups. I am new tech as old service company has been fired and banned from site!.
I have new sbs2011 going in late tomorrow. I want to join all the workstations to the new domain with minimum lost of data, especially email. All users are Outlook of some version (2003/7 and 2010). Ther mail is not working of course but old content is still there. The primary user can still log in and out but no one else except local user.
I plan on:
1. archive to pst all current email for each user and save file to external drive JUST in case.
2. remove all domain users from workstation manually except the current user. Most users are administrators on their own workstation but all have 'old' domain users.
3. Remove workstation from old domain, Domainold, and then connect to DomainNew.
Most users have roaming profile but when I connect workstations to DomainNew I will use their old profile.
Am I missing something? I saw once where someone here just did connect right from user while still configured on the workstation under DomainOld but that must leave old group policies all over the workstation.
Comments appreciated.
