EDB Files in C:\Temp folder

I am running a Windows SBS 2008 server.

I have been getting warnings regarding low space on my C: drive. I performed some research and I found "IMG#", where the # sign represents numbers 1-4, files that contain "VDB _ DATE" folders in them. These folders contain copies of EDB files from my Exchange server. There are two groups of these folders, they were created a year ago and a week ago. The folders state that the total size is 36GB but the size on disk is 90MB. Can these folder be deleted safely? Why are they there?
