Disable WSUS in GP - Use WU

Hello... Looking for a solution for a non-functioning WSUS. My server is due for replacement in February so not looking to make any major corrections to the server in the short term. I want to disable WSUS and change the GP to point the users PC's to WU. Would the steps be to disable WSUS in GP then create a new GP for WU. Or, option 2, disable WSUS and enable WU individually on the users PC's? Thoughts?

SBS 2003 R2, SP2

Windows 7 desktops.
