xp, 2003 Microsoft fax server (separate computers and faxes)

I should probably separate this question to two questions. I just imagine the approach will cover both.

I have a windows server (sbs 2003 x86) where I installed the fax server. when I attempt to send out a fax (from the server computer), I get all the standard prompts, but the fax never ends up in the outbox, nor in the sent folder. Hence my faxes don't go out.

Windows xp pro fax services: I install the fax service (from either printers and faxes, or from windows components in add remove progs), it finishes the installation with no error, but it won't show up under printers and faxes. (or add/remove windows components, when I open it up again the fax is unchecked again, and the fax printer is missing.)
