I had SBS 2011 runing and had the raid card fail this weekend. I got an RMA and the cards manufacture sent a replacement card that was the same as the previous model. THe server had the backups enabled and friday's backup was successful. I
started a bare metal restore and it has been restoring for over 24 hours and it has almost no progress at all. It is just hanging on Re-image your computer. I was using the Thermaltake BlacX as the backup with Segate 3Tb hard drives. The hard drive status
light for the hard drive shows some activity. I need to get this server recovered and I am wondering what could be going on?

I cannot initiate a remote desktop connection with my file server, but I can to my DC. Other Computers on the network can initiate both.
Using server 2003 as DC and server 2003 as FS. Problem computer is running windows 7 upgraded from vista professional. I can initiate a remote desktop session with the dc but I cannot initiate with the fs. Other computers on the domain have no problem
initiating with either server. I have access to the fs's shared folders via LAN and can ping the fs. Also cannot utilize MySQL on the fs with this computer. FS cannot initiate remote desktop with the problem computer but can with others

IE Java error on intranet website after joining SBS 2003 Domain but not in workgroup
Crazy issue I am having. I have a couple win 7 machines in my sbs 2003 network that are getting a java error when they click a link in a sharepoint intranet website. Example: on the calendar there is a link that will show more items, when you click it you get the following error

I searched all over trying to find out why this error was happening but could not find anything, the worst part is that the error does not happen in Firefox but some of the program features need IE so using firefox is not a solution. This only happens on some windows 7 machines not all of them.
In my troubleshooting I was almost positive this was a issue on the sharepoint website server until I removed the problem machine from the domain and put in a workgroup, Once machine was in workgroup the error did not happen and the link worked correctly.
So to clarify the script java error happens in IE when the computer is in the domain but not when it is in a workgroup. I am thinking this might be a group policy that is applied but I have not had any luck finding it. I have not added any custom gp's
I went to the default domain policy-edit-permissions and gave a test user deny apply policy which had no change.
Hoping you experts can help me find out what on the domain is causing me to get this script error

Join a Windows 2012 server (standard edition) to an existing Windows SBS 2003 (32-bit) domain
We are planning to connect a brand new Windows 2012 server standard edition to a Domain that currently has a SBS 2003 as it's DC. I am finding it difficult to obtain any information. As the server is to be installed at a remote site (connected back to the domain via a LAN to LAN link), I am keen to make sure this new server (and the SBS box) are absolutely prepared before I do anything irreversible.
Can you advise?

How to block websites for specific users?
Good afternoon,
In our company there are few users (around 10) that should not access websites except for our 3 websites (so I can't block their whole internet access).
It should be a list of permitted websites and not a list to block.
Can I do it somehow with SBS 2011 standard ?

Website filtering for specific users on SBS 2011.
Hi guys,
one of the clients I do regular work for have requested something pretty specific and I'm having trouble finding a decent and straightforward method of getting it done, and was wondering if anyone could help.
They are a law firm and have several junior members of staff who spend a lot of time on Facebook and Twitter. The MD of the company doesn't want to pay her employees to chat to their friends on Facebook, but the problem is as the company gains a lot of income through Social Media, and has it's own company Twitter and Facebook accounts. This makes a complete block impossible.
There are only 2 or 3 users whom need access to the sites, and around 7-10 users which do not need access.
I've spent a fair amount of time looking for easy solutions, including the Untangle firewall software, and the company also has a Firewall which is running IPCop, but I believe it doesn't have the ability to block individuals from using sites (the old "A patch is coming... one day").
The company is using a server which has Small Business Server 2011 Standard installed, and I was wondering whether there was anything I could do in there to achieve what I'm looking for, and if not, whether anyone knows any decent and straightforward third-party softwares to get this done.
Any input will be useful, and I've tried to make what I'm trying to say as clear as I could, but if you're not sure what I mean please ask and I'll try again.

Adding a Windows 2003 server to a SBS 2011 domain.
In SBS 2003 adding a server and adding a workstation were different. Each had there own options and wizard in the SBS Console. You could even specify an IP address for a new server. I don't think that is the case with SBS 2011. At least I can't find it. The Win. 2003 server will simply be a file server. Do I join it the same way I do a normal computer?

Cannot access OWA sbs 2011
Hi,
We have a client who runs SBS 2011 which runs OWA. We are having trouble connecting to it externally and internally. The problem does not rely on ports.
When trying to connect we go to https://mail.<domain name>.org.uk/OWA, it connects to the site where it asks you if you would like to continue (as we do not have a valid SSL certificate), you continue and then I just get a blank screen appear with no writing error codes nothing! (this is in Google Chrome) in IE we get a Java Script error.
We can however connect via https://mail.<domain name>.org.uk/remote and then signing in and then clicking on check mail, however this is not what we want.
It has worked in the past however it has suddenly stopped working due to a windows update? Not sure if this update has caused this issue however that is all that has changed.
Any help is appreciated.

HELP: I am running SBS 2011 Standard Server and it cannot configure the router then Dhcp stops with open the ports message
Hi I am running SBS 2011 Standard Server and I have a new router (Cisco SA520W security router). The error message is server cannot open ports on the router ensure that ports 80,443,987,25 or 1723 are open and then dhcp stops. I really
need dhcp to work withinSBS 2011 standard. All the ports are open so I do not have a clue what is happening here. I even had a cisco engineer remote in to assure the ports were open.

msoa 2008 (MSB 2008) kills program when trying to do data backup - new problem
The backups have always worked great - but the last backup we tried (many, many times now), kills the program with no error codes. Anyone know what to do?

Outlook email images blocked by default Group Policy?
Since we went live with the SBS 2011, a number of Outlook 2003 users are complaining about web-based images not showing in their Outlook emails. Since this wasn't an issue before, I'm wondering if there is anything in the default set of group polices that

Microsoft Exchange Transport Service wont start
Hi
I have an issue that has turned up randomly and not sure where the issue comes from.
This server has been operational with no issues for over 12 Months.
This morning I cannot send or recieve email from the server.
Microsft exchange transport service will not start and I have some odd permission errors happening.
I have made sure that NETWORK SERVICE has full access to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14 but I have a tick in the read only attribute for all these folders. The tick is greyed out but I can remove it and it goes and applies it to all the subfolders
and files but when I go back and check the attributes again the tick has returned. Is this my issue?

Any assistance in finding the fault here would be much appreciated.

How to merge data from backed up exchange database to live database
Hello,
I have an SBS server (SBS Server 2008 with exchange server 2007) which crashed due to a faulty UPS . (UPS kept on switching itself off).
This caused registry corruption with the SBS server and all attempts to recover it failed. So as it was urgent I decided to restore from the backup.
The backup was 2 days old as the previous night did not work for some reason.
Before I restored I made a manual back of the exchange directory.
The restore worked correctly but some of the exchange data was missing. (the day before the server crashed)
I would like to recover the missing mailbox data from the manual backup that I made and merge it into the current live database.
From what I have read I need to create a recovery storage group and from there I should be able to export data from the old database to the current. Do i have to use the exchange shell to do this or is there an easier way. Even if i export to a PST and then re import into outlook would be OK.
Alternatively if I just copied the backed up database and replaced the current live database would I then lose data since I did the recovery.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Exchange 2007 rejects messages from senders with an invalid from address
Hi,
I have an SBS 2008 server with Exchange 2007.
recently our organisation made some changes to the website and email referrals from the website are now not coming through to the intended recipient in the organisation.
It looks like exchange might be rejecting the messages.I am using the pop3 connector to download messages. When I check on the pop3 server the message appears but the senders email address says "invalid address".
I don't know where it goes after exchange has downloaded the message but I think it gets rejected because the user does not receive the message.
So does the problem need to be resolved by the web developer so that the email being sent has a valid sender address or can the Exchange receive connectors be adjusted or reconfigured to accept these messages and not reject them.
If I do this does it mean I am exposing the server to accept more Spam messages.
Any help would be appreciated.

Windows cannot locate the server copy of your profile
Getting this message for some users on SBS2008 login
How do we change some of the user profiles to prevent this message ? In AD some users have a roaming profile , others don't .
They have been setup at different times. Also occurs with XP and Win7 pc's.

SBS Sharepoint issues
Hello,
Running SBS 2008 standard. This morning we had a problem accessing companyweb as well as sharepoint admin. After searching the web we tried to run the sharepoint configuration wizard which is now stuck at step 5 and won't close. The search service is currently stuck at "starting" and I think this is why its stuck. We also are getting event log errors every 30 seconds from MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE with the event 824:
The description for Event ID 824 from source MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local
computer.

Event ID 1500 every 5 minutes in system log
On my SBS 2008 install I receive 2 event 1500 IDs every 5 minutes:
System: Information : Event 1500; Group Policy
The Group Policy settings for the computer were processed successfully. There were no changes detected since the last successful processing of Group Policy.
Now I am aware that group policy on DCs processes every 5 minutes, but I don't think it is normal to actually have these events logged consistently as they totally eat up the system log (On average 576 entries daily).
Can anyone else confirm that these log on another SBS 2008 install as well?
Does anyone know if it is possible to suppress these?

Missing Secure and HttpOnly Flags from Cookie in OWA

Recently had a PCI compliance scan on server running SBS 2011 fail due to following errors:
1) Missing Secure Flag From SSL Cookie at IP address <serverIPaddress>, port 443, instance /OWA Recommended resolution by Scanner vendor "add the "Secure" flag to the cookie".
2) Missing HttpOnly Flag From Cookie at IP address <serverIPaddress>, port 443, instance /OWA Recommended resolution by Scanner vendor "add the "HttpOnly"" flag to the cookie".
I came across a similar question titled "Missing Secure Flag & HttpOnly Flag From SSL Cookie - OWA" that was answered by Xiu Zhangwith an answer of "it (the HttpOnly flag) cannot be changed" and "it is by design".
I also ran across another article elsewhere, where an individual apparently successly set these flags by placing the line
<httpCookieshttpOnlyCookies="true"requireSSL="true"/>
in the web.config file for OWA. This however broke OWA in my case, as in the case of the similar question referenced above. Numerous other people appear to be having the same issue as referenced by the 14 responses to this similar question asking for documentation (but with no responses from Xiu Zhang).
The bottom line is that the ASV will only give me an exception "if you can confirm that the cookies missing this flag(s) are only used before authenticating and that they do not contain sensitive data". This essentially means I need either some semi-official confirmation (other than a post in a forum) from someone at Microsoft that this is the case.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
