SBS 2011 Cannot Access RAID 10 Drive

0
0

I have SBS 2011 installed on an IBM X3630 M3 with the following specs:

2 x Intel Xeon X5650

32 Gb RAM

ServeRAID M5015 RAID controller

7 x 300 Gb IBM SAS Drives

The OS is installed on a RAID 1 drive and all data and Exchange Database is stored on a RAID 10 drive, with all drives handled by the RAID controller.

This morning I had a notification that the server needed a reboot because of recently installed updates, so I performed the requested reboot.  Since restarting, I have been unable to access the data drive (the RAID10 drive) although in MSM it is showing as optimal and the same is reported in the RAID controller's BIOS at startup.  Exchange, obviously, is not working and when I attempt to open Disk Management or Event Viewer or browse the data drive, the server becomes unresponsive and won't respond to shutdown requests and eventually I have to force shutdown with the power button as the system becomes totally unresponsive.

I have installed updated drivers for the RAID controller but it has had no effect whatsoever.  The OS is installed on a RAID drive, so I don't believe it's likely to be hardware-related.

Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions on this issue.

Exchange SMTP connectors are invalid

Hi,

I have been getting the odd DNS error with our SBS server so I ran the "Fix my network" tool. It noted two problems, one with the router that it managed to fix and one with exchange that it cannot.

The problem is reported as "Exchange SMTP connectors are invalid : Exchange is not configured to comunitcate over the network". When I attempt to fix the problem it says it cannot: "The server cannot connect the SMTP connectors. Ensure that Exchange is running and try again". All Exchange services are running. I have done run through the wizard several times over the last week and I get the same response. Below is a snippet from the fncw.log.

In my Exchange I have two Hub Transport Send Connectors. One is the Windows SBS Internet Send SERVERNAME, the other is our FQDN. The SBS connector uses the "Use the External DNS lookup settings on tranport server" option enabled. The FQDN does not. I'm not sure if this was manually done or correct.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Thanks,

Dermot.

SBS 2011 losing DNS - with WAP plugged into network after 3-4 days.

I have a client using SBS 2011 (Patched to the latest security patches). I installed a new WAP (Wireless Access Point) on the network and everything is fine for 3-4 days and suddenly nobody can get access to external Websites (DNS down - Looks like).  But as soon as I unplug the WAP from the network - everybody gets internet access again. I have installed two different brands of WAP and both do the same thing in about 3-4 days. If I reboot WAP and plug it back in i get another 3-4 days.

How to make a web page available from outside

0

I would like to post a simple web page on my SBS 2008 machine and make it available from outside our firewall. I would prefer that users would have to log in using their domain credentials to access the site. Where can I find the instructions to do this? I'm assuming it's possible because the companyweb and owa are available outside by logging in and the help page is available without logging in

SBS 2011 Standard - Remote Access to other computers keeps asking for Credentials. Even after I put them in multiple times?

I am trying to remote access Computers with in the domain utulizing the remote.ourcompany.com site.  After putting in my credentials it keeps popping up a credential logon after each attempt.  No failures just a logon loop...

Additional Info:  remote access from server allowed.  Remote access from other computers to computers is whats happening as described above.

Small Business Server 2008 - Extremely slow/long boot, hanging on black screen with mouse cursor

Hello all. I have an issue that I've been looking for a solution for for quite some time. Our SBS 2008 server seems to hang for a very long time on boot. It hangs on the typical black screen with a mouse cursor. You can move the mouse, but can't bring up task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del, etc.

It eventually does boot into Windows, but can take around 45-60 minutes. I've tried Last Known Good Configuration etc but no luck with this, as well as going through all event logs with a fine toothcomb but can't find anything either.

I'm guessing that it could be a service or driver timing out or hanging, but if someone could guide me through the troubleshooting steps in order to pin point this that would be great. Unfortunately the majority of my experience lies with Server 2003 based domains as well as *nix sysadmin so I'm at a bit of a loss with the latest and greatest tools to use to identify the issue.

Any replies would be gratefully received.

Best regards

SBS 2003 source server died during SBS 2011 Migration

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can provide some advice / direction.

I'd just completed the majority of the migration, and went to uninstall exchange 2003 on the old server, it then wanted the original install disks which had gone walkabout. I'd sourced a copy and was waiting for it to arrive.

11:21 today, powercut... New server had been swapped onto UPS, but old server on direct mains, DOH!

Old server is now dead, looks like motherboard has gone kaput, so at time of crash Exchange 2003 was still installed and it was still a DC.

What steps do I need to take to manually remove all reference to the old server in the AD and Exchange environments on the new server?

Thanks in advance.

Mick

Issues with Sharepoint on an SBS 2008 SP2 Server

I am receiving an error when attempting to go to http://companyweb.
It says configuration file...

I have attempted the psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force and it fails after what looks like it is working for about 60- 75 seconds.

The error I get is that it says is:

<...>Failed to detect if this server is joined to a server farm<...>

In the event log I am getting the following entries which may allude to a problem

Unknown SQL Exception 2812 occured. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.proc_getObjectsByClass'.

I cannot be certain when this problem started happening, I dont know if it started after a patch (which seemingly others have had problems with)

If you require any other logs, I can post them.

Is there any best practises for this migration or how to on this area ?

Outlook 2010 users periodically disconnected from Exchange 2007

The server is Exchange 2007 on Small Business Server.

On random occasions, the entire domain's Outlook 2010 stops communication with Exchange. We replaced the switch. It's still happening. What should we look for? All Exchange services AND OWA appear to continue to function even as the Outlook client disconnects.

How to recover erased Emails

Hello, hope my english not too bad.

Here is the problem : I was asked how to recover some emails which a erased on an Outlook client.

The SBS is configured so erased mails are saved during 30 days.

A tiny anoyance : the user MUST NOT be informed that I try to recover them... so impossible to use the function into Outlook.

Thanks.

Forgotten Domain Admin password

Hi everyone

Not sure if i'll get anywhere with this but thought i'd ask

I have a colleague who's Windows 2011 SBS server is not accepting the domain admin password. He has unfortunaley lost it, so i would like to reset it. I have tried the below articles but to no avail.

I can however log onto the server in Directory Restore Services Mode after resetting the local Administrator password. But unfortunately i am unable to reset the domain admin password still

Can anyone recommend another way to do this?

Thanks

upgrade from 2000 to 2008

I have an SBS 2000 domain which has a 2003 server attached to it running Terminal Services.  What steps would I take to upgrade the SBS 2000 domain to a 2008 R2 domain in these circumstances?  There are only 10 users involved here so I don't mind doing everything from scratch manually if it would be less problematic than doing it via a programmed upgrade method.

Active Directory secondary domain controller / site planning with SBS 2011

Hi, I'd like to setup the following, but I'm not sure about best practices etc. I know SBS can be frowned upon, but due to budget but bare with me :-)

I have two sites, head office with 30 users, and branch with 20 users.

Head Office runs SBS 2011.

We need a DC (or RODC) on the same domain in the branch which is in a different physical location for file sharing / Global Cat / DNS etc. Users in this branch will use the Head office SBS 2011 for Exchange.

Has anyone done this? Is it frought with dificulties because of the SBS Domain Controller? I'm about to whip up a test enviroment but would appreciate some advice.

Many thanks

Win 7 Pro cannot see SBS 2008 anymore

Hi

A previously connected win 7 pro pc stopped accessing shared drives from SBS 2008. Having disconnected the pc from domain it cannot see the SBS 2008 Server anymore. Trying to connect to domain it says;

An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "mydomain.local" could not be contacted.

Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly.

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "mydomain.local".

The error was: "No DNS servers configured for local system."
(error code 0x0000267C DNS_ERROR_NO_DNS_SERVERS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.mydomain.local

Having 'upgrade' repaired the Win 7 made no effect. IPCONFIG/ALL output below. The pc can ping SBS 2008 through ip but not via server name.

How can I fix this issue please?

Thanks

Remote Desktop via Remote Web Access (SBS upgraded to 2011)

Remote Desktop does not work when launched from a browser using "Remote Web Access".

There are no obvious errors, except the Remote Desktop client timing out, saying that the server is taking too long to reply.

The only clue that I have found are IIS logs (containing suspicious http return codes 404 and 401 ):

I have my old domain that holds {Myserver}.{mydomain}.org. This is an SBS 2003 server that holds my exchange. I now have {Myserver}.{MynewDomain}.local which is running an sbs 2011 essentials server. The essentials did not include exchange so i have to use the old server for exchange and the new server for everything else. I need to know how to connect clients outlook to the old server even though they are joined to the new domain. When i tried on my client everythingjoined, but i could not send or recieve email. I fixed all my dns records to allow the emails and now my outlook has no connectivity to exchange. None of the other client outlooks will connect. They wont even complete the check name stage of the manual setup. Please help as this has made me very close to throwing all the computers away and going back to a pen and pad of paper.

SBS 2011 STD Remote Web Access - Administrator is able to log in remotely, standard user is not

The error message is this:

"Remote Web Access is not allowed for your user account. Contact the person who manages your server."

I am that one:) Yes, they have rights, I checked. As default when I add a new user there is a right granted for OWA, RWA, WEB intra.

How could I solve this?

Thx for any help!
