Ping the client from the server at 'client name' resolver to wrong IP

0

I just installed a win7 client to a sbs2002r2 server, All went well till I tried to push install Symantec from the server to the client.Which would fail every time. So I transfered the install package to the client over the network and did finall install the antivirus that way.

In tryinng to find out why the connection failed I did the following.:

Ping the server by name and by IP works from client to the server, and server is fully accessable in that direction from the client.

Ping the client from the server at 'IP 192.168.1.35' (The IP assigned to the client in DHCP and listed in DNS HostA as athe client by name and IP works

Ping the client from the server at  'client name' only shows the ping directed to IP '192.168.1.15' Which is the wrong IP address.

That address was assigned to another client in the system therefor the failure I guess.

I ran DNS server and found many duplicate records So I  cleaned up the records by using aging/scavaging settings ,waited for a time and all the DNS records are now listed ok without duplicates. All clients except "35" are working properly. The client for IP '35' did not have a record in reverse lookup so I added it. I also note that the client'35' has a red x on the tool bar network connection icon, but this client '35' is working fine and has full access to the server and internet without problems.

I still can not ping the client from the server by name as it continues to resolve to the "15" IP address even though I deleted that record from DNS and DHCP and all clients are listed properly on the server. When I try to connect using SBS2003r2 server management console with connect to computer 'by name" using terminal services it fails with the error "The client could not connect to the remote computer.Remote connection may not be enabled or computer too busy try again." All other client will connect with this method.

When I try to connect to the client using the servers RDP connection ,by client "name" it fails with the same message unless I use only the proper IP 192.168.1.35 assigned to the client then it connects and I can control the client remotely. The staff using the system need to be able to use RWW on this server to remote into the clients and this will not work on this client only, all the rest do.

I think I already ran ipconfig flush/renew but do I need to do it again since I did the repairs on the DNS duplicates?

I suspected maybe a blockage by the windows firewall on the client but that is controlled by Symantec SBS endpoint protection .

I did make exceptions in the windows firewall for port 4125 but that did not help.

I am not sure what to try next??

I appreciate any help you can give.

Server showing RAID 1 error - need to get secure backup.

0
0

I have noticed that the software RAID controller is showing an ERROR for one of the drives and obviously the server has been running on the good drive (I had not noticed because on this HP ML115 G5 server the RAID is done at BIOS level and I have not installed (as yet) any OS level management s/w).

I do use the native backup for the server to 2 USB drives and that seems to run OK but I have not ever done a total recovery from them.

I want to be sure that I have every recovery option available before I attempt to install HP s/w to manage/repair the RAID (there is a BIOS level utility I used to set them up but I do not know if it is resilient enough to recover in this situation). I have a USB drive I can use to get extra system images and data. Note the (wierd) configuration is that the supplied drive when server as new was a 160GByte and was not removed prior to the RAID (2 x 1TByte) being configured AND the installation of SBS 2008 used that drive (now D:) for the windows boot sequence (rest of OS on C:). The RAID is divided into c:, e: and f: - for OS, data, data. I am not considering removing the D: (boot) drive for this repair. Just want to get the RAID back working.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what further I could backup in case the native backup proves problematic. I am getting a spare drive for the RAID should it prove one is caput! Thanks.

-------------------------- Many thanks for your time.

SBS 2011 Backup Completed With Warnings

Hi

I have SBS 2011 running on Hyper-V. The server crashed a hard drive with RAID 5 and somehow locked up the other 3 drives. I was able to reboot the machine and the mail was restored. The public folders would not mount. I restored a backup of the public folders from the previous day and was able to mount the public folder.Mail is flowing and I have a bunch of errors. I also moved the server to another Hyper-V server so I can fix the RIAD 5 and test it. The main error is the
backup and log file corruption:

SBS2003 Prem - SBS2011 Prem - missing GPO policy guid affecting AD replication

0

Trying to migrate SBS2003 Premium to SBS2011 Premium. Using the MS docs for migrating SBS03 -SBS11 I'm at the stage where I need to uninstall Exchange on SBS03 box but I cant uninstall it becuase the SBS11 box cant update Active Directory due to a replication problem.

I think I've tracked it down to a missing guid which I have traced back to a GPO Policy. Problem is the GUID doesnt exist on either server, I've searched the registry for it as well but no joy, but the GUID in question is 10A06E69-832F-41BB-BE3E-F54AC15D6302, the event log error is

System Event 1058

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\server.local\sysvol\domain.local\policies\{10A06E69-832F-41BB-BE3E-F54AC15D6302}\gpt.ini

Any suggestions?

Sharepoint on sbs 2008 not working after KB2687442 install

Hi

For the last five weeks sharepoint has been down, when anyone trys to
access http://companyweb/ all that is shown is a message saying "Cannot
connect to the configuration database".

IIS seems to be running fine and pointing to the right place and I restarted the websites and services and that didn't fix it.

We have tryed these steps:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2009/05/06/companyweb-inaccessible-after-sharepoint-3-0-service-pack-2.aspx

and we have tryed using psconfig "-cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait
-force" that has not done anything. Have also done an application
restore on sharepoint.

Is there any other fixes?

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

These are the events that appear when i try to access http://companyweb/

and it returned

So i restarted the spsearch service that didnt help and i also tryed
it with spsearch stopped. The Log on account for windows sharepoint

told me if the log on account is anything other than local system
account to run the stsadm.exe command.

and PSconfig doesnt work it gets:

I have also checked the update log and it shows

Went to setup the automated backup today and right off the bat ran into an issue.  I have a USB disk plugged into the back of my Dell Poweredge, but when the wizard went to look for external sources to backup to, it didn't find anything.  I have done a bit of searching but didn't find anything straight forward.

Thanks in advance

It all started when I tried to add a user and it failed at the adding email stage, I couldn't connect into the server.

I restarted no luck.

Carried out all outstanding updates including rollup v7 for sp1 though it appeared to work once it want to install it again, then failed, and eventually did it again and passed.

I'm now seeing the icon on the server with a red cross but i can access the internet. On the client machines it's showing as local only and again i can connect to the internet.

Migrate from SBS 2003 to Windows Server 2012 Standard -- two questions

0
0

Hello,

I am getting ready to migrate from SBS 2003 Premium (15 users or so) to Server 2012 Standard and several questions have come up.

Prior to attempting the migration, I am going to be moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange Online and hope to use the Active Directory integration.

Here are my questions:

1.  Will moving to Exchange Online and using the Active Directory integration that's available with that service cause any problems in moving the Active Directory over to the new server?

2.  Can I move the Active Directory over to the new server and keep the same server name?  Right now the SBS2003 server is ZZSERVER.company.local, and I would think it would be easier to keep the same server name for the various shares we currently have configured.

http://connect Windows 8 to sbs2008 unsuccessful

I again call on the help of the generous SBS community. For those that have assisted me in the past a BIG THANK YOU.

This time I need to connect a Windows 8 computer to SBS2008 std. The error - Verify Computer Requirements – Unsuccessful. This computer does not meet the requirement necessary to connect to the network. In the list of OS that appear, Windows 8 is not listed. I have searched the internet but little could be found. I tried to manually connect the PC to the domain. This failed as the Domain button was not selectable. I have tried the rollup 6 as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2729101. Again I was unsuccessful.

This last option I have not tried as I am unclear and uncertain if it will work in my environment. The link http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2011/09/sbs-2008-configure-sbs-connect-wizard.html . This procedure calls for modifying/replacing two files on the SBS server. Before I commit to this change I welcome further advice.

The version of Windows 8 is 6.2.9200. I am not sure whether this supports a domain connection.

SBS03-SBS11 Active Directory not replicating preventing Exchange from being uninstalled.

In the middle of a SBS03-SBS11 migration started on Xmas eve during the Xmas shutdown but I'm still not able to progress past uninstalling Exchange from the SBS03 box. When I try to uninstall Exchange on SBS03 box I get the error message you must be a member of domain admins etc as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842694

When I load AD Sites & Services on the 03 box and do the check from the above KB I get the error message the Source server is currently rejecting replication requests.

I've run Repadmin /ShowRepl on the SBS11 box and get the following output

I've tried running the Showrepl /options -enable_inbound_repl but then get the message:

So any suggestions as to what would be the best route to resolve this so I can get into a position to uninstall Exchange 2003?

How to manage email header fields in SBS 2008 / Exchange 2007

0
0

Hello,

We own a SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007 SP3

We have a domain name and a MX record pointing to our server.
We defined a SPF record (no DKIM at this state) and have a look from time to time to the "blacklisters".

We use a residential Internet Provider but with a fixed IP address and a reverse DNS.

We alternatively use two ways to send e-mails :
- the residential Internet Provider smart host (very efficient but limited in volume)
- a direct send

Everything including the direct send is working but anyway, we are definitively not professionals of e-mail forwarding and don't want to become one.
For that reason and to be able to send some thousand e-mails (not spam !) without too much risk, I tested the Amazon AW SES (Simple Email Service) as a new professional Smart Host.

At this point, my emails are refused by Amazon because of the header format : header field "acceptlanguage" is not IETF compliant (as long as I understood).

...
Accept-Language: en-US
Content-Language: en-US
X-MS-Has-Attach: yes
X-MS-TNEF-Correlator:
acceptlanguage: en-US
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
...

I have some questions :

1/ I still don’t know why Exchange needs to create this header field 'acceptlanguage', but I found it on thousands forums examples relating managing mails with Exchange, so not particular of mine. But still why does Exchange create this field which seems to have everytime the same content than "the normal one" "Accept-Language" ?

2/ Is there a simple way to manage these header fields - if the answer is to delete it with a Transport Rules, please see point 3/

3/ Considering a way to delete this header field, the normal way seems to be to implement a Transport Rule in Exchange.
As far as I understood, Transport Rules can be implemented on the Hub server or on the Edge server.

It seems that this sort of Transport Rules (for deleting an header field) only work on Hub server on some versions of Exchange (mine is 2007 SP3). On other versions the invoked rule is still working but is then overloaded by the “post-routing” process (I suppose the categorizer in the content conversion module). This one create again some header fields when there are "missing". "acceptLanguage" is part of them. I came to this conclusion throught different forums posts and by testing directly with the Exchange PipelineTracing tool.

So, the Microsoft solution would be to install an Edge server with a similar Transport Rule which should be efficient in that case.
Unfortunately SBS is not implementing the Edge server and this one does’nt seem to be very compliant with it.

4/ Any simplest solution, explanation or help would be appreciated (I really hope I missed something).

SBS Migration preparation tool fails on active directory repclication is disabled on the server

Hi

I am trying to migrate a SBS2003 to SBS2011 but the preparation tool fails on "active directory replication is disabled on the server"

Have tested and tried a few hints from the web but nothing seems to help, and as long as I get this error I cannot continue.

The SBS2003 domain also have a Windows 2003 DC server. Could this be the problem? Replication between the SBS2003 server and the W2003DC works fine

Please help

I forgot to delete the old folder redirection GPO off of SBS 2003 during a migration to SBS 2011. Now What???

Hello

I did a SBS 2003 migration to SBS2011. The migration went well. But now folder redirection is not working. I forgot to delete the old folder redirection GPO off of SBS 2003 during the migration. The GPO was transferred over to the new SBS 2011 server. I deleted it and recreated a new folder redirection GPO from scratch and it still does not work.

I ran GPO inventory on the server  and queried RSOP folder redirection and found that it still points to the old SBS03 server. That server is powered off and is not on the network.  I ran gpupdate /force on the workstation and the GPO does not want to update.

Any thoughts on getting this issue resolved?
