Exchange 2010 / Outlook 2013 - Mailflow Issues

$

Hi everybody,

Some time ago I've configured a SBS2011 server for one of my customers.

The SBS2011 has exchange and sharepoint, these services work fine.

The exchange server is only being used for the calendars, no e-mail flow.
The company uses IMAP through an external hosting-server.

So in Outlook 2013 we configure 2 accounts, one exchange account and one IMAP account.

Configuring the clients isn't a problem, and all seems fine, the calendar works.
But when the e-mail flow starts, users wil receive the same email multiple times and it seems the system is in a loop. E-mail flow will stop or the users get the same e-mails multiple times.

I've checked multiple solution regarding Win8+Outlook 2013 and IMAP, (issue about an update and setting the right root folder), but nothing seems to help.

We installed Outlook 2007 on the clients and configured them with both of the accounts and the system works like a charm! E-mail and the calendar are working like it should.

But the company bought about 20 Office 2013 licenses, so we need to get this to work on the new Outlook.

I don't think there is a problem in the Exchange Server, but in Outlook 2013, possible because both of the accounts share the same OST file.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Been running my mind for months.

With kind regards,

Tim Grave

SBS2011 WSUS broken

I inherited a 2011 SBS install that seems no one knew how to monitor. WSUS was set to update every offering ever made and anything that was released later! Needless to say the DB was about 50GB and I wondered what was consuming the disk space.

I was unsuccessful at doing any standard cleanup in WSUS. I changed the products and classifications so I had just one product then tried the Server cleanup wizard as described in many other forums. It didn't seem to matter, running for days it would not clean up and would hang. Eventually I stopped the Internal ##SSEE DB and went to the library and deleted all the updates! I put everything back on line and still could not perform a clean up.

I would like to get WSUS going again, what do I need to do? I am not worried about loosing anything we have a small system with about 25 devices.

Thanks

ISP is blocking us from using their smart host, they think we are spamming.

Our ISP is blocking us from using their smart host a few times these days. They told me that one or some of our computers were infected and spamming. I checked Trend Micro console, but have not seen any viruses so far.
We migrated from SBS2003 to SBS2011 a few days ago. And our ISP blocked us from using their smart host on the very next day. Ever since then, this has happened 3 times in a week.
If I use our own server to send out emails, some recipients will reject because of their spam filtering system.

Any thoughts, suggestions??

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

We have used "Direct Access" to connect my office network from outside.
Some of the users are not able to connect DA from home, I checked and reinstall the DA but at the end DA is not connected.I had done all the basic troubleshooting but finally not connected.
After that reinstall the OS then DA works.

Most of the time we need to reinstall the OS for sucessfully DA.

So please someone can help me for this issue.

Change (Administrator) Password

Hi,

I have windows small business server 2011 and I am trying to change the administrator password but getting the following alert:

Resetting this password might cause irreversible loss of information for this user account. For security reasons, Windows protects certain information by making it impossible to access if the user's password is reset.

Can I go ahead and change it? will it affect the access of any of the applications installed on it such mas my Sage Peachtree for example?

Thanks,

jassim

I have racked my brain over this and cannot find a solution. I've tried different solutions but none seem to work for me, I cannot add roles or do any updates on the system.

here is what the log is saying...

SBS, Exchange, and Exchange 2013.

Hello All,

I need a bit of help.  I hope someone out here is an Exchange and SBS expert.. I need help..

I took over a network that was running Small Business Server 2008 with Exchange installed.  I bought a new Dell and virtualized three servers.  One of my virtual servers has Windows Server 2012 and Exchange 2013. After I installed Exchange 2013, I went to migrate some mailboxes from the Exchange 2007 machine (SBS).  When I did, the test mailboxes moved but would not open in outlook. The mailboxes that I need to move are huge and the test box wasn't.

I contacted Microsoft and we could not figure it out.  So I just left all the mailboxes on the SBS Exchange 2007 system. I would like to remove the .VHD that has Exchange 2013 on it.  I am going to virtualize the SBS and then reformat the server that the SBS resides on.  I would then like to install 2012 R2 and Exchange 2007 on that server to migrate the mailboxes and kill the SBS virtual server.

First - Is this even possible?

Second - Can I kill the Exchange 2013 .vhd without any issues?

I don't know if Exchange 2013 has been improved and I should try it again but I am a bit gun shy now.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Will

Spam protection for e-mail

$

On one of our clients that is still running SBS 2008, we have enable spam filtering for email.  The security tab shows that its status as OK but it also shows

Messages rejected: 0 Messages scanned: 0

In the Exchange Management Console, it shows all anti-spam filters are enabled and the action is to reject messages that have a SCL rating of 8 or better.  Any ideas as to why no messages appear to be scanned?

All of our other servers, SBS 2008 & SBS 2011 seem to have the same settings and show stats like:

Messages Rejected:  1426 Messages Scanned:  3310  or Messages Rejected:  9743  Message Scanned:  17429.

We also use Trend Micro Worry-Free Advanced on all these servers so spam is being filtered via that application but I am trying to figure out why the Exchange Anti-Spam does not appear to be scanning any messages on its own.

Any idea of where I can start to look or what to check to see why Exchange is not scanning any messages?

Thank you.

Client PC migration fails from SBS 2003 to SBS 2012 Essentials

$

Please check out this entire message before making an assumption about what it says, thanks.

Our old SBS 2003 Server hard failed a few weeks ago.

Rather than repair it, we ordered a new server with SBS 2012 Essentials and loaded the backup data from the old server.

The Server is just fine.  We are having no issues whatsoever with the server.  I kept the old domain name and server name.

The Client Computers, some Win7 some Win8.1, have turned into a nightmare to re-connect.

What happens is, the user can log in, but has no files in desktop, downloads or documents, nothing has been migrated:

The process I'm using is this:

1> I take them off the old domain and set them up as workgroup: NOGROUP... that works fine.
2> I bring up http://SERVERNAME/connect and begin installing the server software, no problem yet...
        >> This goes to a point where it asks for a restart, followed by a lot more waiting.
        >> Eventually it crashes with a message I have, unfortunately, not documented (sorry).
3> When I restart the PC, I'm able to log into the user account : DOM\username, but none of the users files are there.

Looking at the file tree at C:\Users I see a folder structure like this:

  C:\Users
        |_   _client.setup_  (essentially empty)
        |_  username         (the old account... and yes, it has all of the files and app data)
        |_  username.DOM (the new account, but essentially empty)

It appears that the setup was supposed to migrate 'username' thru '_client.setup_ into 'username.DOM' but failed.

I can move all of the data from 'username' to 'username.DOM' to solve the data and files problem.

But the AppData folder cannot be moved in its entirety (I tried, and it clobbers the user completely), I have to manually transfer files from 'username\AppData' folders (Local, LocalLow and Roaming) making sure to transfer only the files that don't exist in the 'username.DOM\Appdata' folders.

I realize that this process leaves me with a 'Less Than Perfect' AppData setup.

Since I have many Clients left to convert, I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong, or how to make it right.

Hi, I have SBS 2011 as virtual machine. Host is Microsoft server with Hyper V. I've noticed that configured time server is Hyper V time server and because I have some Synology device that is supposed to have the same time server as SBS, I would like to configure external time server for SBS so that both match. Do I need to remove Hyper V time server or not? And how to configure then additional time server and mark it as primary?

Thanks :)

We have an old server (SBS2008) and plan to buy a new server with (Server 2012). I need to move all the exchange emails, contacts & calendars to the new server. We will no longer use the old server.

Is there a document or migration tool that will help me understand how to move this data form the old exchange server to the new one?

Old Server:

SBS2008 running Exchange 2007

New Server:

Server 2012

Exchange 2013

Any help is appreciated!

I inherited a 2003 SBServer and having issues in getting shares setup via gateway to gateway tunnel. I can ping the server with no problem when using the ip address, I can not do it using server name. I have access to some network printers and routers but not all of them. Not for sure where I need to look first to see what is causing the blockage. Any help would be great.

sbs 2008 dns issue.

hiya,

The extent of my technical expertise results from the fact that our SBS setup lives on my desk and i'm the one they whine at when they can't get to their Facebook page.

What are the likely scenarios when one particular external website--just one that i'm aware of, but one our in-house council insists on using constantly--becomes unavailable (server not found)  but that a restart of the DNS server seems to solve?

cheers,
